Close Hearts | Nauru, China Writes a New "Mountain and Sea Emotion"

2024-03-27

Nauru is located about 42 kilometers south of the equator and is known as the "Paradise Island" in the Pacific Ocean. However, the natural conditions here are not suitable for crop cultivation, and agricultural products such as vegetables and fruits heavily rely on imports. China's mushroom and grass technology is expected to change this situation soon. This spring, Hes Tekai Foylep, an official from the Ministry of Environment, Management and Agriculture of Nauru, became the first Nauru student to attend a Pacific Island country mycorrhizal technology training course. Professor Lin Zhanxu, an over eighty year old inventor of mushroom and grass technology, traveled across the ocean to personally teach and dispel doubts for students, making China's "happy grass" benefit the people of Pacific island countries. Since the resumption of diplomatic relations in mid January this year, the peoples of the two countries have been working together to write a new chapter of friendship. Adion looks forward to learning from China's experience and developing fruitful and mutually beneficial partnerships. The two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of a number of bilateral cooperation documents in the areas of jointly building the "the Belt and Road", implementing the global development initiative, economic development, agriculture, etc. "Happiness Grass" spans mountains and seas. In late February, Foylep participated in a one week Pacific island country mushroom grass technology training course in Fiji. From learning theory to visiting the mushroom grass technology demonstration base, from practicing cultivating and harvesting mushrooms under the forest to understanding sustainable development strategies, the training content is comprehensive and practical, making him very rewarding. Professor Lin Zhanxu, Chief Scientist of the National Fungal Grass Engineering Technology Research Center, personally visited Fiji and held a special lecture for the students. The mushroom grass technology has achieved simplicity and standardization, and the characteristic industry of mushroom grass can be described as "thousands of households can participate and develop", with low investment, fast effectiveness, high economic benefits, and good ecological benefits. The purpose of this training is to further promote the widespread application of mycorrhizal technology in Pacific island countries, and to assist more developing countries in poverty reduction and sustainable agricultural development. ?? On February 23rd, Professor Lin Zhanxu (right), inventor of mycorrhizal technology, led his students to test soil salinity during a training course on mycorrhizal technology in Pacific island countries held in Fiji. Nowadays, mycorrhizal fungi have taken root in more than 100 countries and regions, and are affectionately referred to as "Chinese grass" and "happy grass" by the people of many countries. In order to better promote mycorrhizal technology in Nauru, Foylep is preparing training programs and pilot projects to attract more local farmers to participate. He said, "I believe that introducing mycorrhizal technology has many benefits for my country, such as enhancing food security, enhancing our ability to respond to climate change, and enhancing economic vitality through the development of new industries." Nauru's Secretary General for Multicultural Affairs, Eo, believes that cooperation with China will bring more experience in poverty reduction and promoting economic growth to Nauru and other Pacific island countries, "which is beneficial for Pacific island countries and
