On March 2nd, in Lagos, Nigeria, a light rail blue line train entered the terminal station (drone photo). The first phase of the Lagos Light Rail Blue Line project, undertaken by China Civil Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (CCECC), started construction in July 2010 and was completed in December 2022. The project is 13 kilometers long, with 5 stations and a designed speed of 80 kilometers per hour. The project will be put into commercial operation in 2023. According to data from the Lagos Light Rail Blue Line Operations Department, the light rail blue line has been operating safely for nearly 7 months, carrying approximately 8500 passenger trains with a 100% on-time rate, and transporting over 940000 passengers in total. It is reported that the Lagos Light Rail Blue Line is the first electrified urban rail transit project in West Africa that is independently designed, constructed, constructed, and operated by a Chinese enterprise. The all electric trains used on the Blue Line provide commuters with a green, environmentally friendly, and energy-saving mode of transportation, effectively reducing harmful gas emissions and promoting green and sustainable development in Africa. The blue line has shortened travel time, improved the quality of life for citizens, and changed the urban landscape of Lagos, becoming a new business card of this metropolis. (Lai Xin She)
