The Supreme People's Procuratorate Work Report pointed out that in 2023, the procuratorial organs strictly punished the crime of producing and selling toxic and harmful food, counterfeit drugs and inferior drugs in accordance with the law, prosecuting 13000 people, a year-on-year increase of 31.5%. 24000 public interest lawsuits were filed in the field of food and drug safety, a year-on-year increase of 16.8%. Protecting food and drug safety means protecting the legitimate rights and interests of consumers. Looking back at 2023, the efforts made by procuratorial organs in protecting the legitimate rights and interests of consumers go far beyond the two sets of data mentioned above. The procuratorial organs have made many efforts in punishing the crime of producing and selling counterfeit and inferior goods in accordance with the law, strengthening the protection of geographical indication intellectual property rights, and carrying out special governance of food and drug safety in online live streaming marketing. In 2023, the national procuratorial organs prosecuted 5620 cases of food crimes and 10711 people, and 2544 cases of drug crimes and 5563 people. At the same time, the procuratorial organs have increased their punishment for the crime of producing and selling counterfeit and inferior goods in accordance with the law. In 2023, the national procuratorial organs prosecuted 10794 cases and 21208 people for crimes related to the production and sale of counterfeit and inferior goods, and prosecuted 7983 cases and 17728 people for crimes related to intellectual property infringement. For major cases that infringe on consumer rights and interests, the Supreme People's Procuratorate continuously increases its supervision and guidance. On the one hand, it supervises cases of public concern, such as fake and inferior insulator series cases, and guides local procuratorial organs to actively engage in investigation, guidance, and evidence collection work to ensure the quality and efficiency of case handling; On the other hand, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, together with the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the State Administration for Market Regulation, jointly supervised 14 criminal cases related to the production and sale of counterfeit and inferior agricultural materials, continuously tracking and guiding the progress of the cases, and promoting substantial progress in the case. In order to concentrate on cracking down on and rectifying illegal and criminal activities in the field of food and drug safety, the procuratorial organs continuously take special actions to safeguard the people's rights to life, health, and property. ——The Supreme People's Procuratorate continues to promote the special action of "cracking down on violations, controlling drug residues, and promoting improvement" of edible agricultural products jointly carried out with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and six other ministries, with a focus on cracking down on serious violations of pesticide and veterinary drug residues, illegal production, sale, and use of banned and restricted substances such as clenbuterol. ——The Supreme People's Procuratorate, together with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the State Administration for Market Regulation, and six other departments, jointly deployed the 2023 Special Action on Anti Counterfeiting of Agricultural Materials and the annual work to safeguard spring plowing production and a bumper grain harvest. The Supreme People's Procuratorate has released 5 typical cases of procuratorial organs punishing the crime of producing and selling fake and inferior agricultural inputs in accordance with the law, involving multiple fields such as pesticides, veterinary drugs, seeds, fertilizers, etc., fully demonstrating the procuratorial organs' practical actions in implementing strict punishment measures
