Today, the reporter learned from the Supreme People's Procuratorate that in 2023, more than 1400 public interest litigation cases in the field of women's rights protection were filed and handled by procuratorial organs nationwide, providing strong legal protection for safeguarding women's legitimate rights and promoting their comprehensive development. On January 1, 2023, the revised Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests officially came into effect, authorizing procuratorial organs to file public interest lawsuits against situations that infringe on women's rights and interests or harm public interests. It is understood that during the handling of cases, the procuratorial organs have found that there are still the following problems in protecting women's rights and interests: firstly, the concept of gender equality needs to be further deepened, and there are still many phenomena that harm women's legitimate rights and interests, such as employment discrimination, domestic violence, and sexual harassment; Secondly, some employers have not fully implemented the relevant regulations on special labor protection for female employees; Thirdly, the protection of the rights and interests of groups such as disabled women, elderly women, and rural women needs to be strengthened; The fourth issue is the prominent protection of women's rights and interests in the new business model. Based on these issues, the procuratorial organs have handled a number of leading cases, such as addressing issues such as violations of legal provisions and infringement of the legitimate rights and interests of rural women in some areas. The procuratorial organs urge local township governments to improve the filing and review of village regulations and agreements, and actively safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of rural women. The head of the relevant department of the Supreme People's Procuratorate stated that in the next step, the procuratorial organs will fully exert their legal supervision functions, actively perform their duties in accordance with the specific types of public interest litigation supervision specified in the Law on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests, highlight the key points of judicial case handling, and strengthen precise supervision and special protection; Fully leverage the advantages of integrated prosecution, improve the mechanism for reviewing and transferring clues within the procuratorial organs, focus on synchronously discovering public interest litigation and judicial assistance clues when reviewing criminal, civil, and administrative cases involving women's rights protection, achieve the dual effect of punishing illegal crimes and protecting women's rights and interests, and enhance the effectiveness of women's rights protection; Strengthen law enforcement and judicial cooperation, gather joint efforts to protect women's rights and interests, and contribute procuratorial power to safeguarding women's legitimate rights and interests and improving the environment for women's development.
