Looking Forward to the Future Sailing of Domestic Airplanes

2024-02-21

Yesterday (February 20th), the Singapore Air Show kicked off, and China's domestically produced commercial aircraft made their debut in groups overseas. As one of the most famous air shows in the world, the aircraft showcased at the Singapore Air Show will attract global attention. At this year's Singapore Air Show, two domestically produced large passenger aircraft C919 from China went abroad for the first time and performed flight performances. Among them, China Eastern Airlines operated the world's first C919 aircraft, which took off from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and flew directly to Singapore Changi Airport, taking about 6 hours and covering a direct flight distance of about 4200 kilometers. There are also three domestically produced regional aircraft, ARJ21, on static display at the air show, including one ARJ21 passenger aircraft from overseas customer Indonesia Lingya Airlines and one ARJ21 cargo aircraft from a domestic freight company. The C919 domestically produced large passenger aircraft made its debut overseas and conducted flight performances, highlighting China's growing aviation industry strength. As a brand new single channel narrow body passenger aircraft, the C919's direct flight from Shanghai to Singapore also proves its excellent performance to the world. The domestically produced regional jet ARJ21, as a powerful supplement to mainline aircraft, has already gained overseas customers and delivered two planes for normal operation in Indonesia. This is a milestone for domestic jet aircraft to enter the international aviation market and an important beginning for domestic aircraft to go abroad. As some foreign media have pointed out during their coverage of the Singapore Airshow, China and the established commercial aircraft manufacturer Airbus have become highlights at this year's exhibition. In the era of economic globalization, it is an inevitable choice and trend for domestic passenger planes C919 and ARJ21 to enter overseas markets. Multiple aircraft manufacturers predict that the global aviation market will demand over 40000 commercial aircraft in the next 20 years, with single channel narrow body passenger planes accounting for the vast majority of these commercial aircraft demands. From the current perspective, the production capacity of existing aircraft manufacturers worldwide cannot meet such a massive demand for aircraft, so it is timely for China to participate in the international aviation market competition. It can be foreseen that the export of domestically produced aircraft will become a norm in the future, and the international aviation market is full of strong interest and willingness for domestically produced aircraft. Only by showcasing "going out" can more international orders be attracted in the future. At this year's Singapore Air Show, 56 new orders were signed for C919 and ARJ21. Although both buyers were domestic airlines, this is still a positive signal. After all, it took decades for established aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing to gain comprehensive market recognition. Domestic aircraft are still in the development stage, and we are not afraid of market tests. Of course, compared to mainstream aircraft models in the international aviation market, domestically produced aircraft such as the C919 still have a long way to go. Obtaining the airworthiness certification issued by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) or the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which is recognized by the vast majority of countries, will be the most crucial step for domestically produced aircraft to go overseas. The National Civil Aviation Work Conference held in January 2024 has made it clear that this year, civil aviation will do a good job in the post certification management of C919 and ARJ21, optimize the airworthiness review of C919 and ARJ21 modifications, promote the EASA certification review of C919 aircraft, and promote domestic civil aircraft to go abroad. In addition, C91
