Parkinson's disease with high disease burden will have its first rehabilitation "team label"

"Late stage Parkinson's disease patients have a stiff body and very difficult care. We have seen in hospitals that some patients cannot even open their hands. Recently, Lv Zeping, the director of the Rehabilitation Hospital affiliated with the National Rehabilitation Aids Research Center, mentioned the difficult burden of care for Parkinson's disease patients in an interview with reporters.". There are currently approximately 3.65 million Parkinson's disease patients in China, and it is expected to reach 5 million by 2030. Lv Zeping stated that one of the main reasons for the rapid increase in the number of Parkinson's disease patients is the continuous prolongation of life expectancy and the deepening of aging. Neurodegenerative diseases closely related to aging are showing a rapid increase trend, especially the rapid increase in the number of Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease patients, and their related management and care costs are rapidly increasing. The related public health pressure is particularly enormous. Huang Fubiao, the deputy director of the Chinese Rehabilitation Research Center, explained that the impact of Parkinson's disease on patients is comprehensive, with a more intuitive impact on their motor function, such as becoming unstable while walking and having difficulty holding things. The huge hidden danger brought by unstable walking is falling. Elderly people are a high-risk group for Parkinson's disease, and their bones become fragile. Once they fall, it is easy to cause fractures, which will increase the burden of care and seriously affect the quality of life of patients and their families. In addition to these intuitive effects, Parkinson's disease can also cause poor sleep quality and increased psychological pressure in patients, and these invisible effects have a significant impact on their quality of life. In addition, patients may also experience decreased swallowing function, increased risk of pulmonary infection, and gastrointestinal dysfunction. Lv Zeping stated that scientific rehabilitation methods will play a significant role in reducing the burden on Parkinson's disease patients. Recently, the project review meeting for the group standard (hereinafter referred to as the "group standard") for the comprehensive rehabilitation evaluation guidance system for individuals with functional impairments caused by Parkinson's disease was held in Beijing. Lv Zeping is one of the main reviewers of this group standard. Mei Shanshan, one of the main leaders of the group standard and deputy chief physician of neurology at Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, stated that the group standard formulated this time will design a standardized evaluation and rehabilitation treatment framework based on the main symptoms of Parkinson's disease. In addition, personalized rehabilitation plans will be customized according to the specific symptoms and living environment of patients, and attention will be paid to early warning and prediction of Parkinson's disease, promoting early detection and treatment, guiding a reasonable lifestyle, and reducing the impact of the disease. It is understood that this is the first group standard in the field of Parkinson's disease rehabilitation in China. Lv Zeping has high expectations for this group standard. He said that rehabilitation will play a role throughout the entire Parkinson's disease process, and in the early stages of the disease, rehabilitation can delay the deterioration of symptoms; After the clinical symptoms become apparent, rehabilitation can also help patients improve their quality of life; In the late stage of the disease, with the increase of medication, the side effects of drugs also increase, and rehabilitation can also play a certain role in reducing medication dosage. Li Jianyu, the editor in chief of group standards and deputy director of neurosurgery at Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, mentioned the importance of receiving rehabilitation treatment for Parkinson's disease patients: throughout the entire course of the disease, rehabilitation training can improve symptoms such as gait, swallowing, and language.
