According to the data released by the China National Intellectual Property Administration on January 16, by the end of 2023, the effective number of domestic invention patents (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) was 4.015 million, with a year-on-year increase of 22.4%. China became the first country in the world where the number of domestic effective invention patents exceeded 4 million. According to relevant sources, through the 2023 intellectual property data, it can be seen that enterprise innovation activities remain active, innovation in the digital economy sector is strong, new consumption growth points such as domestic "trendy goods" are accelerating, and China's economic vitality continues to burst. On January 16, Hu Wenhui, Deputy Director of the China National Intellectual Property Administration, introduced at the press conference held by the National Information Office that the effective number of invention patents in China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) reached the first 1 million in 31 years, while the breakthrough of the fourth 1 million took only one and a half years. Among these over 4 million valid invention patents, high-value invention patents account for over 40%. China has become a true intellectual property power and continues to contribute significantly to global innovation and development. From the perspective of enterprises, as of the end of 2023, there were 427000 domestic enterprises with valid invention patents, an increase of 72000 compared to the previous year. Domestic enterprises have 2.99 million valid invention patents, accounting for 71.2% of the total, surpassing 70% for the first time, further highlighting their position as innovative entities. From the perspective of fields, according to the statistics of the 35 technical fields divided by the World Intellectual Property Organization, as of the end of 2023, the top three effective invention patent growth areas in China were information technology management methods, computer technology, and basic communication programs, with year-on-year growth of 59.4%, 39.3%, and 30.8%, respectively, far exceeding the average growth level in China, "This indicates that China has maintained a high level of innovation enthusiasm in the field of digital technology, continuously empowering and increasing efficiency for the high-quality development of the digital economy," said Hu Wenhui. From a regional perspective, as of the end of 2023, the effective number of invention patents in the Yangtze River Delta, Beijing Tianjin Hebei, and Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area was 1.308 million, 703000, and 672000, respectively, accounting for a total of 65.6% of the domestic total, with a year-on-year increase of 21.1%, 21.0%, and 23.2%, respectively. The key regions have made significant contributions to innovation leading initiatives. Hu Wenhui said that the China National Intellectual Property Administration will continue to improve the quality and efficiency of examination, vigorously promote the transformation and application of patents, accelerate the realization of patent value, better stimulate the innovation vitality of the whole society, and help high-quality economic and social development. According to the data of the China National Intellectual Property Administration, the annual output value of geographical indication products exceeds 800 billion yuan, 13 geographical indication products will be approved in 2023, and 201 geographical indications will be registered as collective trademarks and certification trademarks. 5842 business entities have been approved to use geographical indication special signs. Hu Wenhui introduced that as of the end of 2023, China has approved a total of 2508 geographical indication products, registered 7277 geographical indications as collective trademarks and certification trademarks, and operated a total of 26000 entities specializing in geographical indication. The annual output value of geographical indication products exceeds 800 billion yuan. While China's geographical indication products continue to develop domestically, they are accelerating their entry into the country
