Mountains and rivers are unharmed as you wish

2023-12-25

On September 30th, the Martyrs Memorial Day ceremony to offer a flower basket to the people's heroes was held grandly at Tiananmen Square in Beijing. The picture shows Young Pioneers laying flowers at the Monument to the People's Heroes. On November 16th, Yin Bogu photographed Wu Dawei, a veteran of the Korean War, visiting the Martyrs Cemetery in Shenyang to pay tribute to his comrades. On September 30th, Xu Shanshan organized 100 newlyweds in Nanjing to offer flowers to revolutionary martyrs. If you open the column, time flies, and the calendar pages turn over. Looking back at 2023, which moments will enter the "framing of time"? In the flood, disaster relief officers and soldiers pushed lifeboats forward, leaving their positions on the boats for the masses; On campus, the children saw the military merit badge on the chest of the Korean War veterans, and their eyes were full of reverence; On the plateau, a fourth generation upper class soldier who joined the army as a relay was the first to submit an application for armed patrols... The shutter opened and closed, and the moments when the army and civilians, youth and veterans, and home and country were "framed together" were integrated into an annual photo album, with two dazzling and warm words written on the cover - National Defense. The overlapping of light and shadow forms a cross-section of the era. Opening a photo album is like flipping through the images that moisten the corners of our eyes, encountering heroes that we never forget, and drawing on the power that keeps us moving forward. In the album, we are in all directions, but our hearts are connected; The national defense in the photo album is about us, who share the same roots and work together to guard the mountains and rivers without any harm. Starting today, our newspaper will launch a special column titled "Looking Back at 2023 National Defense Album", capturing unforgettable moments in the field of national defense in 2023. We will take stock of the annual work in areas such as martyr commemoration, emergency rescue and disaster relief, military recruitment, national defense education, and retired soldiers, and record the growing national defense annual rings, consolidating the strength of a strong country and a strong military in the new era and new journey. Stay tuned. Thousands of words, searching for a surging exit. On November 16th, the Korean War Martyrs Cemetery in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. A 90 year old veteran with a military merit badge hanging on his chest stood in front of the English Name Wall, silently caressing the long names on the wall. That was not a cold name, it was once a vibrant life, and it was also a comrade who fought alongside him. A song flowed from the bottom of his heart, surging out - "Here, the mountains and rivers are safe, the years are quiet. Ah, comrades, ah, comrades! I will pick you up, pick you up..." The veteran's name is Wu Dawei. After learning about the news that the tenth batch of martyrs' remains in Han are about to return home, he couldn't calm down for a long time and decided to write a song for these comrades. "For over 70 years, I have been thinking about those fallen heroes and lovely comrades in arms. Day and night, I look forward to them." In September 1952, Wu Dawei rushed to the battlefield of the Korean War. During a performance, Wu Dawei and his comrades were trapped in a tunnel by the enemy. The tunnel was blazing with flames, followed by an explosion, and Wu Dawei fainted. After waking up, he learned that some of his comrades had burned severely to save him, while others had already sacrificed themselves. Starting several times and then putting it down several times, Wu Dawei always felt like he wanted to say too much, but didn't know where to start. Until he walked into the Martyrs Cemetery and felt the breath of his comrades, his thoughts finally surged like a spring. When Wu Dawei's 91 year old partner and military composer Tie Yuan received the lyrics, tears welled up and the melody was set in just one day. together
