Chinese Exhibition Team Appears at the World Nuclear Industry Exhibition

2023-12-01

The 5th World Nuclear Exhibition was held in Paris, France from November 28th to 30th. The theme of this exhibition is "Connecting Nuclear Energy to the World: Addressing Energy and Environmental Challenges". Over 700 exhibitors from over 70 countries and regions showcased cutting-edge technologies and application trends in the nuclear energy industry, and all parties discussed the importance of nuclear energy in addressing energy and climate crises. The Chinese exhibition team showcased multiple independent innovative technological achievements at the exhibition. Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, stated at the opening ceremony of the exhibition that the global nuclear industry is undergoing a revival. Against the backdrop of the global energy and climate crisis, the industry has once again launched a wave of construction, with nuclear energy returning strongly and countries around the world showing renewed interest in nuclear energy, including those seeking to gradually phase out the technology. The President of the World Nuclear Exhibition, Bai Lin, stated that many governments and regions around the world are reconsidering and evaluating the position of nuclear energy in energy strategies and low-carbon transformation. The latest report "World Nuclear Revival" released by the French Nuclear Industry Association shows that in 2022, nuclear energy will become the second largest low-carbon power source in the world and the largest low-carbon power source in the European Union. According to data from the International Energy Agency, the use of nuclear energy has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 70 billion tons over the past 50 years. The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grosi, stated that in 2023, the world added 7 gigawatts of nuclear power installed capacity. Currently, there are approximately 400 reactors in 31 countries and regions, and we may need twice or even more by 2050. Since the first World Nuclear Industry Exhibition in 2014, the China Nuclear Energy Industry Association has continuously organized Chinese delegations to participate in exhibitions. At this year's exhibition, the Chinese exhibition group, consisting of 12 companies including CNNC, CGN, State Power Investment Corporation, and Huaneng, has an exhibition area of nearly 500 square meters, making it the largest national exhibition group after the French exhibition group (see photo, taken by reporter Shang Kaiyuan of this newspaper). The technology products and solutions designed and manufactured in China, such as Hualong 1, CAP series, high-temperature reactors, fast reactors, nuclear power pump valves, radiation detection new materials, and supporting components, have attracted attention from all parties. "China has a complete nuclear power industry chain and has formulated clear and continuous development plans." The "World Nuclear Renaissance" report points out that China's nuclear power installed capacity doubled from 2015 to 2021, with more than 20 nuclear power units under construction, ranking second in the world in the number of operating and under construction nuclear power units. China's vitality in nuclear energy research and development has made it one of the most innovative countries in the world. This year marks the 40th anniversary of China France nuclear energy cooperation. During the visit of French President Macron to China in April this year, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of cooperation documents in the field of civilian nuclear energy. The joint statement between China and France stated that in order to achieve the common aspiration of low-carbon transformation of the energy system, the two countries will carry out practical cooperation in civilian nuclear energy under the framework of the intergovernmental agreement on peaceful use of nuclear energy. The two countries are committed to continuing to promote cooperation on cutting-edge topics in nuclear energy research and development based on agreements between the National Atomic Energy Agency of China and the French Atomic Energy and Alternative Energy Commission. The two countries support the possibility of strengthening industrial and technological cooperation between enterprises on issues such as nuclear waste reprocessing. This year's Chinese exhibition team actively participates in the World Expo
