Pingwu, Mianyang: Building a Strong Ecological Barrier by the Fujiang River, Bringing in "A Hundred Birds Together"

2023-11-20

In early winter, a hundred birds gather along the Fujiang River in Pingwu County, Mianyang City. The birds play, fight, and forage, becoming a beautiful scenery in winter. With the continuous improvement of the ecological environment in Pingwu, the number of migratory waterfowl such as egrets, mandarin ducks, and red billed gulls in rivers and lakes within Pingwu every winter is increasing year by year. Good birds choose good trees to live in. Wild birds are very sensitive to environmental changes, so they are known as the "barometer" and "invigilator" of the ecological environment. Pingwu is highly popular among birds due to its excellent ecological environment, becoming a habitat and foraging ground for birds, as well as a breeding and wintering ground for migratory birds, including some "national treasure level" birds. According to Li Zhiping, a bird photography enthusiast in Pingwu, as a "bird photographer", in the past 7 years, he has captured 304 species of birds in Pingwu, including 4 species of national first-class protected birds and 35 species of second-class protected birds. 79 species of migratory birds have been recorded during their stay in Pingwu, including 4 species of primary protected birds and 17 species of secondary protected birds. With the strengthening of ecological and environmental protection efforts, more and more wild birds are attracted to settle and reside here, and the records of wild birds in Pingwu have been repeatedly refreshed. The Asian desert forest warbler and boot gracilaria warbler in the northwest region were first recorded as new members of Sichuan bird species in Pingwu; The yellow breasted bunting, Chinese merganser, and black stork, which are nationally protected animals, take a break on their migration route in the county town of Fujiang; Stay for a few days by the Bai'eyan River, which comes all the way from the Arctic tundra area, and then depart; The rare red necked webbed snipe, long tailed duck, slender billed gull, and three toed gull in China stop by the Fujiang River in Pingwu during their migration; Mandarin ducks and ibis billed snipes gather in small groups along the Fujiang River in the county seat to winter and welcome the coming year... Pingwu County is located in the upper reaches of the Fujiang River, a national key ecological functional area, and an important ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Fujiang River. The forest coverage rate is over 78%, with 335 wild giant pandas, known as the "first county in the world of giant pandas". There are more than 4100 species of wild plants, more than 1900 species of wild animals, and nearly 500 species of birds within the county. According to the distribution pattern of species richness of national key protected wild birds in administrative units of counties (urban areas) in Sichuan Province, Pingwu County has the highest number of national key protected wild bird species, with 99 species, ranking first in the province. In recent years, Pingwu County has implemented the concept of "green waters and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains", creating a superior ecological environment for the rapid breeding and growth of migratory birds, and becoming a "bird paradise". Pingwu, with its beautiful ecological scenery, profound historical and cultural beauty, and harmonious beauty between humans and nature, has entered the sight of more people and attracted their footsteps.
