Guangming Network Commentator: A Smart "Pin" Implies the Future

2023-11-13

Commentator on Guangming: AI Pin, known as the "first dedicated AI wearable device" that can replace the iPhone, has just been released. Pin is the image of a "pin" in English, which is actually a wearable camera fixed to clothing like a brooch. It projects the display interface onto the palm of the hand through a laser projector, equipped with a virtual assistant as sharp as ChatGPT, and can access the internet. There are many smart wearable devices, from smartwatches to VR glasses, what is the special feature of smart pins? Having AI support is only one aspect, and more importantly, its "wearability" is more implicit, with no sense of machine invasion, and less obvious changes to the appearance of "people". Think of yourself wearing an intelligent head display, as if stepping out of the space displayed in the movie 'Aliens', with a high profile sense of technology. And what about a "pin"? The main hardware is "pinned" on the collar, and the monitor is "held" in the palm of the hand, so low-key for daily use. An observable perspective is that the transformation of "people" by intelligent devices is deepening - invisibility itself is a characteristic of deepening. The more intangible it becomes, the more it demonstrates a state of human-machine integration, and the more it strengthens the survival status of humans as "technological embodiment" and "intelligent body". In the early days, smart devices were "wearable" to the human body, such as smartphones and smartwatches; Later on, intelligent devices were "wrapped" and "connected" to the physical body, connecting the body to autonomous vehicles, combining with VR fitness equipment, and blending with the vision of VR intelligent glasses; In the future, smart devices will be 'embedded', intertwined with human nature, deeper yet more invisible. With the further application of brain computer interfaces, biochips, artificial intelligence, and other technologies, technology will further scale, transform, and deform human perception, consciousness, and will through intelligent media, reshaping both the human self and the world that humans can experience. The ethical issues we are currently guarding against are mainly the misuse of human biological information, property information, and various types of privacy by intelligent devices. In the future, what we are guarding against is the parameter modification, deformation, and regulation of "human" free will, moral choices, and value judgments. The movie "Inception" provides a concrete scene where some people can infiltrate others' dreams and subconscious through a brain computer interface for so-called conscious management. How to determine which are the moral responsibilities of the subject and which are ethical issues of technology in the context of intangible 'management'? It can be foreseen that the ethical issues surrounding new entities such as "intelligent bodies" will become a problem cluster. At the application level, the most important consideration is how to establish legal norms and technical standards to ensure that people can master the behavior and decision-making process under the state of human-machine integration. Currently, research at all levels is ongoing, but it is generally within the academic scope and there have been no framework guidelines or more macro policy considerations. Starting to worry about these things from a 'pin' may seem a bit overly speculative, but the future always suddenly arrives, just like before this year when most ordinary people didn't know what a 'big language model' was. The future linked by the "pin" is not far away. (New News Agency)
