How to carry out science popularization work? The reporter interviewed relevant personnel on the above topic. What are the scientific qualities of citizens? In 2022, the proportion of Chinese citizens possessing scientific literacy will reach 12.93%. "Liu Yuxin, Director of the Talent and Science Popularization Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology, said that the scientific literacy of the entire population in China is constantly improving, but there are significant differences in the scientific literacy of citizens among regions, urban and rural areas, and populations. The digital divide and knowledge divide still exist. What is the scientific literacy of citizens? How is it judged? According to the Outline of the National Action Plan for Scientific Literacy (2021-2035), citizens possessing scientific literacy refers to advocating the spirit of science, establishing scientific thinking, mastering basic scientific methods, understanding necessary scientific and technological knowledge, and possessing the ability to apply it to analyze and judge things and solve practical problems. The outline also proposes to regularly carry out monitoring and evaluation of citizens' scientific literacy. Experts from the China Institute of Science Popularization introduced the 12th sampling survey of Chinese citizens' scientific literacy as an example. The survey targets Chinese citizens aged 18 to 69, mainly through household interviews and a combination of quota online sample push. The survey mainly includes the scientific literacy status of citizens and its influencing factors, among which the scientific literacy status includes four dimensions: scientific spirit and ideology, scientific knowledge, scientific methods, and problem-solving ability. The influencing factors include the background of the respondents, their attitudes, interests, and needs towards technology, their access to technology information, and their participation in science popularization. According to internationally accepted evaluation standards, the weights of the four dimensions of scientific literacy in the survey questionnaire are 20 points, 40 points, 20 points, and 20 points, with a total score of 100 points. When the total score reaches or exceeds 70 points, it is considered to have scientific literacy. According to the results of the 12th sampling survey on the scientific literacy of Chinese citizens, in 2022, the scientific literacy level of citizens in over two-thirds of China's provinces exceeded 10%. From the perspective of different populations, the proportion of urban and rural residents possessing scientific literacy reached 15.94% and 7.96%, respectively, while the proportion of male and female citizens possessing scientific literacy reached 14.77% and 10.98%, respectively. High quality science popularization ignites public scientific enthusiasm. Scientific literacy is an important component of national quality and the foundation of social civilization and progress. In recent years, China has taken multiple measures to promote science popularization work. According to statistics, the scale of raising funds for science popularization nationwide in 2021 was 18.907 billion yuan, with a total of 1.8275 million full-time and part-time personnel for science popularization. Various science popularization activities attracted 3.38 billion people to participate.
