In those years, every Qingming Festival, Fan Dexiang would follow his mother to sweep the graves of the unknown martyrs. Fan Dexiang recalled that when two anonymous martyrs sacrificed, one was buried in the east of the village and the other was buried in the southeast of the village. Due to the low-lying terrain in the southeast, which is prone to water accumulation, in 1970, Zhang Xiuying and the villagers relocated the unknown martyrs from the southeast to the unknown martyr cemetery in the east of the village. In 2000, during the land adjustment in the village, Zhang Xiuying took the initiative to relocate two anonymous martyrs to her own fields. On the Qingming Festival that year, under the careful planning of Fan Dexiang, a grand relocation ceremony was held in Xiaofan Village, attended by nearly a hundred villagers. After the two anonymous martyrs were buried in the fields of the Fan family, they received better protection. After heavy rain or during farming season, Zhang Xiuying would add soil or clean up weeds. Fan Dexiang said that sometimes he would also accompany his mother, watching from a distance as his elderly mother bent over to tidy up the cemetery and wiped the sweat from her face with the back of her hand... Fan Dexiang said that her mother was born in old China, with a low level of education, but she understood the great principles. Her attitude towards martyrs is pure and sincere. During a holiday, Zhang Xiuying planned to take Fan Dexiang to pay tribute to two martyrs, but Fan Dexiang was delayed due to busy farming work. The mother, who had always been kind, became angry and said, "The martyrs have sacrificed and their names have not been left behind. But we, the people who enjoy happiness, are still here. How can we forget them?" Later, as her mother grew older, Fan Dexiang took over the responsibility of guarding the cemetery. In addition to Fan Dexiang's family, other villagers often help take care of the Tomb of the Unknown Martyrs. As time passed, the story of Fan Dexiang's mother and son guarding the tomb of the unknown martyr spread in the local area. This year, coordinated by the Municipal People's Armed Forces Department, the Veterans Affairs Bureau, and villages and towns, it was decided to relocate the two martyrs to the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery in Yucheng City. On June 23rd, the village held a grand relocation ceremony, and the villagers tearfully bid farewell to the martyrs. In mid August, Fan Dexiang was named the "Most Beautiful Supporter of the Army" in Yucheng City in 2023. At the award ceremony, Fan Dexiang brought his son Fan Jinjie with him.
