Recently, the International Symposium on Active Polysaccharide Science and the Development of Modern Traditional Chinese Medicine was held in Ningde, Fujian Province. Famous academicians, experts, scholars at home and abroad, including Nobel Prize winners, academicians of the CAS Member, academicians of the Russian Academy of Engineering, academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as well-known universities, scientific research institutions and industry representatives at home and abroad, gathered together to discuss the application and prospects of active polysaccharide science in the development of modern traditional Chinese medicine, Promote international academic exchange and cooperation. This seminar released the Ningde Declaration of the International Symposium on Active Polysaccharides Science and Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and also established three sub forums: "Polysaccharides omics Forum", "Traditional Chinese Medicine Modernization Forum", and "Big Health Industry Development Forum". In the 21st century, active polysaccharides have become a research hotspot in the fields of food science, natural medicine, biochemistry, and life sciences both domestically and internationally. Gao Yihuai, a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering and chief scientist of the Bioactivity Center of the Royal Academy of Sciences in New Zealand, stated that discussions such as "the combination of Chinese and Western medicine" and "modernization of traditional Chinese medicine" have become the direction of China's "big health industry" development. The discovery of active polysaccharides is a major breakthrough in the field of biomedicine, and is an important approach and means to "treat nature with the way of nature" after synthetic drugs and genetic drugs. We must adhere to integrity and innovation, keep up with the pace of development of the times, and actively promote technological innovation in traditional Chinese medicine. Nobel laureate in chemistry, academician of the National Academy of Sciences in the United States, and academician of the Royal Society of the United Kingdom, Michael Levitt, delivered a speech at the conference entitled "Major fundamental discoveries require open basic science". He affirmed the current research achievements in the biological activity and mechanism of action of active polysaccharides, and emphasized the importance of strengthening basic research on polysaccharides. He emphasized the crucial role of in-depth research on the pharmaceutical components and efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine in the application of biomedical fields. Moses Szaff, a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Sciences and founding director of the Sackler Institute of Epigenetics and Psychobiology at McGill University, delivered a speech titled "Building a Comprehensive Health Ecosystem in China - Hope and Opportunities for Epigenetics" at the conference, stating that live polysaccharides not only have health benefits, but also play a positive role in early diagnosis of diseases through polysaccharide omics.
