Less than 1% of consumers buy coffee from disposable plastic cups that are overflowing but have no doors for recycling

Not long ago, more than 20 beverage companies in Beijing launched the "Bring Your Own Cup Action" initiative, where consumers can enjoy discounts of 2 to 5 yuan for buying coffee, milk tea, and other products with reusable cups. But there are not many responders to such environmental measures, and some well-known coffee shops even have less than 1% of consumers bringing their own cups. A reporter's investigation found that most of the disposable plastic cups commonly used in the market are made of non degradable materials, and while the consumption continues to increase, the end recycling system has not kept up. It's difficult for consumers to find a cup in a coffee shop. Recently, the reporter came to Starbucks Coffee in Yizhuang Han's Square. During the journalist's 2-hour stay, this store sold a total of 42 drinks, and none of the customers used their own cups. At Starbucks, consumers can deduct 4 yuan by bringing their own cups. According to the Beijing Coffee Industry Association, more than 1100 stores of 21 beverage companies in Beijing have launched similar promotional activities, but the response to consumers is limited. From January to July this year, the number of orders for our Beijing store's own cups was only over 6000 cups, accounting for less than 1%, "Yang Ailian, the operations manager of Pacific Coffee Beijing, told reporters. Taking the store opened in an office building of Guomao as an example, there are already many customers who bring their own cups, but the sales proportion is only 2%. This situation is more pronounced in Dongsi Self coffee shops, where tourists are the majority. Not one out of 100 customers every day may bring their own cup, "the store manager said with some regret: the profit from a cup of coffee is not high, and the price reduction of a few yuan is already a significant effort, but it still hasn't been able to motivate more people to take action. Entotho Cafe also has similar troubles, with only about 10 self brought cups since launching discounts for over two months. Why are consumers unwilling to use their own cups? Ms. Xu, a citizen who almost always buys coffee while shopping, thinks that although there are discounts, bringing a cup of coffee is not convenient. This is also a common reason why many consumers give up bringing their own cups. In addition, consumers are increasingly relying on takeout or online ordering for coffee and milk tea, making it difficult to form the habit of bringing their own cups. Merchants prefer to use recyclable cups to save time. If disposable plastic cups are for convenience, are merchants more inclined to provide recyclable glass or porcelain cups for customers who come to the store for consumption? At around 1 pm, the Raffles MANNER coffee shop in Dongzhimen gathered many customers who had an afternoon break. The reporter noticed that none of the 41 customers who drank in the store used reusable cups. The salesperson explained that the store does not provide glass or porcelain cups, only disposable plastic or paper cups. Although there are porcelain and glass cups in the Piye Coffee Shop on Changyingtian Street, they are mainly provided to customers who purchase hot drinks. The vast majority of cold drinks use disposable plastic cups. Therefore, only 9 out of 39 customers in the store use reusable cups. The main reason for merchants to operate this way is for convenience. A coffee shop manager explained that glass and porcelain cups need to be cleaned, which wastes time and manpower. Customers are also picky about cleanliness. For stores that sell coffee in large quantities every day, disposable plastic cups are more convenient. There are also some beverage stores that offer the option of 'bring your own cup' in vain.
