On September 19th, the 20th China ASEAN Expo (hereinafter referred to as the East China Expo), which lasted for 4 days, closed in Nanning, Guangxi. This year's East China Expo held more than 70 economic and trade promotion activities, with a total investment of over 480 billion yuan in signed projects. This year marks the 20th year of the establishment of the East China Expo. After 20 years of development, the China ASEAN Expo has become an important open cooperation platform for both sides, playing a positive role in promoting regional economic integration. Driven by such positive factors as the "the Belt and Road" initiative, the China ASEAN Free Trade Agreement, and the full entry into force of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP), the dividends of China ASEAN bilateral economic and trade growth accelerated to release. Data shows that as of 2022, China has become ASEAN's largest trading partner for 13 consecutive years, and ASEAN has also become China's largest trading partner for three consecutive years. Since 2023, ASEAN has continued to maintain China's position as the largest trading partner. In the first half of this year, the total trade value between China and ASEAN reached 3.08 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.4%, accounting for 15.3% of China's total foreign trade value. With the emergence of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, the scale of China ASEAN automotive trade and investment continues to expand, and the cooperation in the automotive industry between the two sides has attracted attention and entered a new stage of accelerated development. As one of the important events of the 20th China ASEAN Expo, the 2023 China (Nanning) ASEAN Automotive Industry Cooperation and Development Forum was held in Nanning, Guangxi from September 17th to 18th. Zhang Shaogang, Vice President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, stated that ASEAN has strong economic momentum and great development potential, making it an important global production base and consumer market. This year coincides with the 10th anniversary of the proposal to build a closer China ASEAN community with a shared future. In the past 10 years, bilateral trade and economic cooperation has continued to improve quality and upgrade, and high-quality cooperation on the "the Belt and Road" has yielded fruitful results. The industrial chain and supply chain have been deeply integrated. Digital economy and green industry cooperation are in the ascendant, presenting a new pattern of cooperation in an all-round, wide-ranging and multi-level manner. Chinese car companies are focusing on current development opportunities and expanding their presence in the ASEAN market. With their advantages in intelligence, electrification, and other aspects, Chinese cars have won the favor of more and more consumers in ASEAN countries. ASEAN has become an important destination for Chinese cars to "go global". According to Lin Meimin, Deputy CEO of Malaysia Investment and Development Authority, in Malaysia's diversified industrial landscape, electronics and oil rank in the top two, with electronics accounting for 50%. At present, Malaysia is vigorously developing emerging industries represented by electric vehicles, green technology, and the digital economy, which provide development opportunities for Chinese cars.
