Yancheng Yellow Sea Wetland: A Paradise for Rare Birds and Exotic Animals

2023-09-21

Yancheng Yellow Sea Wetland was successfully included in the The World Heritage List in July 2019 as a habitat for migratory birds in the Yellow Sea (Bohai Sea) in China (Phase I), becoming the first coastal wetland type world heritage in China. This area has the largest and most densely distributed muddy intertidal wetlands on the west coast of the Pacific and the edge of the Asian continent. It is an important supply station for one of the nine bird migration routes in the world, the "East Asia Australia Migration Route". Every year, millions of migratory birds stop, breed, or overwinter in Yancheng. At present, the number of elk deer living here has increased from 39 initially introduced to 7840, including 3356 in the wild, providing valuable natural habitats for rare and endangered animals.
