Visiting the Millennium Old Temple of "Moving Old as Old" - Zhang Fei Temple in Yunyang, Chongqing

2023-09-12

The Zhang Fei Temple, also known as the Zhang Huanhou Temple, is located in Yunyang County, Chongqing City. It was built to commemorate the famous Shu Han general Zhang Fei during the Three Kingdoms period and has a history of over a thousand years. Due to the construction of the Three Gorges Project, in order to protect the Zhangfei Temple in Yunyang, it was approved by the state to be rebuilt in its original state to the opposite bank of Yunyang New City. Following the principle of "not changing the original state of cultural relics", the museum was closed and demolished in October 2002. In July 2003, it was rebuilt and opened with "moving old as old", becoming the farthest distance, highest level of cultural relics, and largest single project investment for cultural relics relocation since the establishment of New China. The Zhangfei Temple in Yunyang has been listed as a national key cultural relic protection unit and has become a rare tourist destination in the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. (New News Agency)
