Southern Power Grid: Providing Reliable Grid Support for High Quality Development

2023-08-16

Shapao Town, Yangjiang City, Guangdong Province, has blue sky and white clouds, with gusts of sea breeze. Recently, at the Huadian Yangjiang Qingzhou Sanhai Wind Farm, about 55 kilometers offshore of Shapao Town, the offshore wind power operation and maintenance team of Guangdong Power Grid Energy Development Company of China Southern Power Grid set sail against the wind and completed a new round of inspections of key electrical equipment such as 67 wind turbines in the sea area, ensuring the safe and stable operation of wind power generation and delivering reliable green energy to users. In the first half of this year, Southern Power Grid Guangdong Power Grid Company completed the revision of the "Guangdong Power Grid Company Carbon Peak Action Plan (2023 Edition)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Action Plan"), proposing 40 key tasks in 7 aspects, including supporting green and low-carbon transformation of energy production, promoting energy consumption, energy conservation, carbon reduction, and efficiency enhancement, as well as 9 major engineering projects such as large-scale new energy access system engineering and main grid optimization engineering, Fully serve the green and low-carbon development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. High quality development cannot be achieved without the sustained support of green energy. Guangdong Power Grid takes multiple measures to support the development of Guangdong's offshore wind power industry, and continues to provide grid connection services for offshore wind power projects within the province. Not long ago, Guangdong Power Grid officially approved the access system plan for the second offshore wind power project at the Huizhou Port of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation, entering a new stage of project development and construction. After the project is put into operation, the installed capacity of Huizhou Port Offshore Wind Power Base will reach 1 million kilowatts. After all units of the base are put into operation, it is expected to provide about 3 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity annually to the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, equivalent to saving 870000 tons of standard coal and reducing approximately 2.31 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The 12 MW typhoon resistant semi direct drive wind turbine planned for the project is the latest model developed in China. To ensure the safe operation of the new wind turbine, we plan in advance to carry out certification testing at the Guangdong Wind Power Coastal Test Base (Shantou) to ensure that the project is put into operation as planned, "said Ling Zhengmao, Deputy Leader of the Market Service Group of the Guangdong Power Grid New Energy Service Center. As of the end of June, Guangdong Power Grid has served 25 offshore wind power grid connection projects with an installed capacity of over 7.9 million kilowatts. By 2025, the expected production scale of offshore wind power will reach 18 million kilowatts. Guangdong Power Grid will vigorously support the development of offshore wind power, continuously improve the service capacity of new energy grid connection, open up a green channel for the construction of new energy supporting grid projects, accelerate the construction of new energy supporting transmission projects, and adapt to the demand for rapid development and access of new energy under the 'dual carbon' goal, "said the relevant person in charge of Guangdong Power Grid. In April of this year, in Xihu Village, Hekou Town, Luhe County, Shanwei City, the power transmission of the Shanwei Switching Station of the 500 kV Outer Ring East Section Project (Shanwei Section) in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area was successful, marking the beginning of the second phase of Guangdong's target grid construction project and a step closer to the basic completion of Guangdong's target grid by the year. According to the Action Plan, Guangdong Power Grid will continue to promote the transformation and upgrading of the power grid. By 2023, the Guangdong target grid will be basically completed, with a power exchange capacity of 10 million kilowatts in the east and west zones, and an external transmission capacity of 15 million kilowatts and 9 million kilowatts in the east and west wing grids, respectively. By 2030, the target grid will be fully completed, and the power exchange capacity of the east and west zones will be further increased to 12 million kilowatts. The external transmission capacity of the east and west wing networks will reach 15 million kilowatts and 12 million kilowatts respectively.
