In the process of flattening the stem of rushes, combining multiple roots and weaving buttons layer by layer, a vivid grass weaving deer appeared in front of us... On the 26th, at the Youth Home of Minxin Jiayuan Community, Jinshan Street, Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing, Mingmei, a craftsman, was explaining the basic skills of grass weaving for community children, which was the seventh year that Mingmei was teaching intangible cultural heritage skills to young children. The picture shows Lantern Grass Weaving Artist Ming Mei demonstrating straw weaving techniques for children. Chen Xin, born in Zigong, Sichuan, brought his hometown's straw weaving skills to Chongqing 12 years ago. In 2011, after completing her university studies in Chongqing, Mingmei chose to start her own business with the skills of straw weaving. While seeking to learn from local famous weavers in Chongqing, she also participated in cultural and creative activities in Chongqing, explored and created dozens of new shapes of straw weaving handicrafts, and innovated the skills of her hometown into a district level Intangible cultural heritage in Yubei District, Chongqing. Many people in my hometown weave straw hats to support their families during the slack season, and I have been exposed to this skill since I was six years old. "Speaking of the origin of learning straw weaving, Ming Mei said that the stems of corduroy are soft and tough, and daily necessities such as straw hats and baskets are lightweight and durable. The planting and weaving industry of corduroy has a long history in his hometown. For many years, due to the single product design, the development of the grass weaving industry in her hometown has been relatively slow, "said Ming Mei. She chose to stay in Chongqing, hoping to bring the grass weaving skills to more places and continuously improve her reputation. Nowadays, Mingmei's works have been adopted by well-known cultural and creative bases such as Chongqing Eling Erchang Cultural and Creative Park and Beicang Cultural and Creative Street, and have gained numerous followers in Chongqing. The picture shows a hot pot shaped grass weaving work made by Ming Mei. Chen Xin, a journalist, walked into Mingmei's studio and saw various types of grass woven handicrafts such as Chongqing hotpot, pumpkin lantern, and fan placed on the shelf, with various patterns such as cross pattern, herringbone pattern, and mat pattern. When making lantern grass weaving, I found some popular palm and bamboo weaving techniques in Chongqing, which not only have fast weaving speed but also are easier to create complex shapes. "Mingmei said that after learning new techniques, her works have made a great breakthrough in shape. In Ming Mei's view, only by keeping up with the times and constantly innovating can intangible cultural heritage skills be better inherited and developed. Therefore, she has been actively exploring the path of inheriting the art of corduroy weaving. Since 2017, Mingmei has visited dozens of primary and secondary schools in various districts and counties of Chongqing, teaching thousands of students the skills of making grass and grass, creating simplified tutorials, and conducting on-site teaching. Mingmei has planted a seed of intangible cultural heritage inheritance and protection in the hearts of young people and children. In addition, she actively participated in local government organized anti drug promotion fairs, public rental housing neighborhoods' festivals, and other activities with a carefully crafted batch of her own draft works. She carried out public welfare publicity, allowing more people to feel the charm of intangible cultural heritage skills. The picture shows Ming Mei making a draft work in the studio. Chen Xin's photo shows that Ming Mei is trying to use straw weaving techniques to make "trendy items" such as jewelry and hand made decorations. The old technique of making light grass and grass weaving, driven by Ming Mei, has transformed from a "field" to a "high-rise building", from a straw hat for shading and avoiding the sun to a modern handicraft for cultivating sentiment, shining with new charm. She hopes to create more in the future
