Li Hui, Special Representative of the Chinese Government for Eurasian Affairs, wrote an article: Contributing Chinese Power to the Political Solution of the Ukrainian Crisis

In order to further promote China's stance on a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis and promote the international community to gather more consensus on restoring peace, in mid to late May, as the Chinese government's Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs, I visited Ukraine, Poland, France, Germany, EU headquarters, and Russia for in-depth communication and exchange with all parties. Since the comprehensive escalation of the Ukrainian crisis, China, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and a responsible major country, has always upheld an objective and fair stance and actively promoted peace talks. On February 24th of this year, China released the document "China's Position on Political Resolution of the Ukrainian Crisis", proposing 12 propositions, including respecting the sovereignty of all countries, abandoning the Cold War mentality, ceasing and ending the war, and initiating peace talks, which has received widespread recognition and praise from the international community. The theme of my visit this time is to promote peace and promote negotiations. During the visit, focusing on the political solution of the Ukrainian crisis, I had an in-depth exchange of views and opinions with President Zelensky of President of Ukraine, Foreign Minister Kuliba, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov and colleagues from European countries. All parties appreciate and actively evaluate China's efforts to restore peace and politically resolve the Ukrainian crisis, and look forward to China playing a greater role. This once again demonstrates that China's position on the Ukrainian issue is objective and fair, and has received support from most countries in the international community. During the communication, all parties expressed concerns about the escalation and spillover risks of the current crisis. The safety of nuclear facilities in conflict areas has attracted high attention from all parties, and once a nuclear accident occurs, no country can be spared. The risks of food security, energy security, and cross-border infrastructure security caused by this crisis continue to ferment. The conflict can only be ended through negotiations. One day before a ceasefire and negotiations, there is hope of peace. As long as there is a glimmer of hope for peace, efforts should be made actively, rather than letting conflicts continue, let alone adding fuel to the flames, leading to local conflicts evolving into large-scale wars, or even nuclear wars. At present, it seems that there may still be many difficulties for all parties to sit down and negotiate and achieve results. However, it is important to promote the cohesion of consensus among all parties, form the maximum common denominator, and gradually accumulate and create conditions for the final resolution of the crisis. China has no selfish interests in the Ukrainian issue, does not engage in "small circles", does not pour oil into the fire, and does not take advantage of the opportunity to profit. China has always believed that in order to solve this complex and far-reaching crisis, it is necessary to not only promote peace talks and a ceasefire as soon as possible, but also promote the construction of a balanced, effective, and sustainable European security architecture, committed to long-term peace and stability. To this end, the international community should adhere to a common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security concept, and better maintain world peace and stability. Currently, more and more countries and insightful individuals around the world are calling for political solutions
