On the 5th, China and Tunisia signed a joint archaeological cooperation agreement in the capital city of Tunisia to conduct archaeological investigation, excavation, and protection of an ancient Roman site in Tunisia. Tang Wei, director of the Archaeological Research Center of the National Cutural Heritage Administration of China, and Rashhem, president of the Tunisian National Institute of Cultural Heritage, signed the agreement on behalf of both parties. Li Qun, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and Director General of the National Cutural Heritage Administration, attended the signing ceremony and held working talks with the Minister of Culture of Tunisia. Li Qun said during the meeting that it is of great significance for China and Tunisia to conduct joint archaeological research on ancient Roman sites in the Ben Arus region of Tunisia. He stated that Chinese archaeological institutions have carried out 44 joint archaeological projects in 24 countries, and China has advanced archaeological technology and mature experience in foreign cooperation. We hope that the two countries will actively explore joint archaeology in more heritage sites, and carry out cooperation on cultural relics exchange, recovery and return of lost cultural relics, and personnel training. Gailmazi stated that both Tunisia and China have a long history and culture, and she is very pleased that the two countries can cooperate in the field of archaeology.
