Recently, data released by the China Futures Industry Association showed that the cumulative trading volume of the national futures market in the first quarter of 2023 was 1.663 billion hands, a year-on-year increase of 8.47%. The trading volume of the futures market has steadily increased, demonstrating the vitality of economic recovery. In recent years, China's futures market has been continuously exploring and innovating, with increasingly diverse futures varieties and active market transactions. The functions of price discovery, risk management, and resource allocation have been continuously enhanced, playing an important role in improving the safety and stability of the industrial chain supply chain. Fully serving physical enterprises, achieving smooth supply chain of the industrial chain. Entering the spotless production workshop of Hebei Zhengda Glass Co., Ltd. located in Shahe City, Hebei Province, the automated production line continuously transports glass raw materials. Since the beginning of this year, the spot price of glass raw material soda ash has remained at a high level, while downstream demand for glass is still gradually recovering, putting pressure on glass enterprises at both ends. Our inventory once reached a very high level, "said Pang Pujun, the deputy general manager of the company. Through hedging operations in the futures market, the company successfully alleviated the operational pressure on both production and sales, effectively ensuring the stability of glass production. In January of this year, due to concerns about the price increase of soda ash, with the help of Zhejiang Yong'an Capital Management Co., Ltd., Zhengda Glass purchased soda ash futures hedging and locked in 5000 tons of soda ash raw materials at a forward price of 2900 yuan per ton, saving production costs of 500000 yuan. After this year's Spring Festival, due to market expectations of a rebound in demand, glass futures prices were periodically higher than spot prices. Zhengda Glass also hedged against the periodic downturn in glass sales prices in the spot market by selling glass futures as hedging. Futures tools are like an iron, helping us smooth out the risk of price fluctuations between production and sales, "said Pang Pujun. The same hedging operation also occurs in downstream glass enterprises. Last February, our company received an urgent order, with the spot price of glass fluctuating at around 2300 yuan per ton. We faced the dual risks of order breach and production losses. "The head of another glass deep processing enterprise in Shahe told reporters that fortunately, the enterprise was able to lock in 3000 tons of glass delivered from February to March at a price of 2220 yuan per ton through basis trade, ensuring production while saving 240000 yuan in costs. Glass is a pillar industry in Shahe City, Hebei Province. As the largest glass distribution center in China, it gathers more than 600 upstream and downstream enterprises in the glass industry, with an annual production of flat glass accounting for about 20% of the country's total. In recent years, the demand for glass industry chain enterprises to use futures to manage production and operational risks has been continuously increasing. Helping upstream glass raw material factories alleviate cost pressures, helping midstream glass traders increase profits, helping downstream glass deep processing enterprises reduce procurement costs, and ensuring stable supply of glass raw materials... Sun Jia, General Manager of Yongan Capital, stated that as more and more glass industry chain enterprises participate in the futures market, futures tools not only stabilize the production and operation of enterprises themselves, It also enhances the resilience of the entire industry chain supply chain of Shahe Glass. While helping physical enterprises better utilize futures tools to cope with risks, many futures companies also participate in trading through risk management subsidiaries, gradually becoming a connecting industry chain upstream and downstream
