Flexible ship jackets, hatch protective covers... Revealing the "black technology" on the Tianzhou-6

2023-05-12

On the evening of May 10th, China successfully launched the Tianzhou-6 cargo spacecraft using the Long March 7 carrier rocket from the Wenchang Space Launch Site. On the 11th, the Tianzhou-6 cargo spacecraft successfully docked at the aft port of the Tianhe core module of the space station. What technological products are there to escort the Tianzhou-6 cargo spacecraft in this mission? High tech ship clothing: After the final assembly and comprehensive testing of the flexible "armor" fitted and shaped Tianzhou-6 cargo spacecraft, it needs to be transported and proceed to the next step of work. During this period, it is necessary to adapt to the special environment of high temperature, high humidity, and high salt mist in Hainan. To this end, the Fifth Academy of Aerospace Science and Technology Group has tailored a new type of flexible ship suit for it. The main structure of this suit is composed of an inner layer, a middle core, and an outer layer, which can not only block the impact of high temperature, humidity, and high salt mist environments on the spacecraft, but also provide "armor" against rain, dust, lightning, and pollution. For the first time, researchers have adopted a rigid flexible design concept, specifically designing a support device for the front conical section of the ship's clothing, effectively avoiding collisions and scratches on sensitive equipment and cables. They have also designed "hats" of different sizes for a large number of protruding load equipment in the rear conical section, strengthening the protection of individual loads, making the flexible ship's clothing both "snug" and "stylish" to wear. At 21:22 on May 10th, the Long March 7 Yao 7 carrier rocket carrying the Tianzhou-6 cargo spacecraft was ignited and launched at the Wenchang Space Launch Site in China. About 10 minutes later, the ship and arrow successfully separated and entered the predetermined orbit. Afterwards, the spacecraft's solar panels began working smoothly and the launch was a complete success. Xinhua News Agency reporter Jin Liwang took a photo of the cabin door protective cover: A "cover" protects the safe entry and exit of the Zhou-6 cargo spacecraft. On the same day, after completing the "space hand in hand" with the space station, astronauts will enter the cargo spacecraft through the cabin door and dismantle the "big gift package" from Earth. To ensure the safety and convenience of astronauts entering and exiting the spacecraft, as well as their work and life in orbit, researchers from the 508 Institute of Aerospace Science and Technology Group Fifth Institute have designed two types of door protective covers for use inside and outside the spacecraft. When astronauts work and live inside the cabin, they only need to open the protective cover of the "skeleton" cabin door, just like putting a dust cover on a TV or air conditioner, to protect the entire cabin door. When astronauts leave the cabin, their operational flexibility and grip ability are reduced due to the limitations of heavy extravehicular clothing and gloves. The protective cover used outside the cabin is designed as a "rolling shutter" structure, which only requires fixing the handles on the left and right sides to the corresponding positions of the cabin door. Simple operations such as "grasping", "setting", and "pulling" can be completed to ensure the safe entry and exit of astronauts. On May 11th, the Tianzhou-6 cargo spacecraft approached the space station assembly at the Beijing Aerospace Flight Control Center. Xinhua News Agency reporter Guo Zhongzheng took a photo of the solar array: "Giant Energy Wings" has full power, and compared to the cargo capacity of previous batches of cargo spacecraft, the Tianzhou-6 cargo spacecraft has once again expanded its capacity, with the entire cargo loading capacity increased to 7.4 tons. This requires a solar "powerful wing" to ensure that it is always fully charged with electricity. The semi rigid solar array "wings" created by China Electronics Technology for the Tianzhou-6 cargo spacecraft can generate electricity in just one day to meet the needs of ordinary households for over half a month
