The United States has developed a centipede type robot that adapts to rough road surfaces

Inspired by the movement of centipedes, American researchers have developed robots with multiple bodies and legs that can efficiently navigate rough roads without relying on sensors to detect road conditions at any time. Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the United States say they have developed a new theoretical framework to calculate the efficiency of articulated robots on rough roads, and have manufactured robots of different specifications for experiments. It has been found that robots with more legs have higher efficiency. Based on this design concept, it is expected to develop a new type of search and rescue robot suitable for agricultural operations and disaster relief situations. The relevant paper is published in the new issue of the American journal Science. Researchers used 3D printing technology to create small robot bodies, each with 2 legs and several engines. Then, robots with different leg numbers were repeatedly driven through uneven roads filled with small blocks, from a designated starting point to the endpoint 60 centimeters away. The results showed that robots with only 6 legs showed very unstable performance, and the time spent on each experiment varied significantly; Robots with 14 or 16 legs travel faster and take about the same amount of time each time. When humans walk in rugged environments, they must carefully observe and respond to road conditions at any time. For robots, this means equipping them with a large number of sensors, which greatly increases costs, and sensors are easily damaged in harsh environments. The new robot segments its motion and does not need to adjust its actions based on real-time sensor detection, making it more efficient and practical. (New News Agency)
