Reporters learned from the 13th China Satellite Navigation Annual Conference held in Beijing on the 27th that China plans to launch 1-3 Beidou networking backup satellites this year to further improve the robustness and availability of the constellation. The Beidou system is a national major scientific and technological project implemented by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. It is a global satellite navigation system independently constructed and operated by China. At present, there are a total of 45 satellites in orbit of the Beidou system, including 15 Beidou-2 satellites and 30 Beidou-3 satellites, all of which are in orbit and connected to the network to provide services. The satellite operates stably in orbit, and features services such as global short message communication, regional short message communication, international search and rescue, precision single point positioning, satellite based enhancement, and ground based enhancement all meet the indicator requirements. The Beidou System Project was launched in 1994, completed the construction of Beidou-1 in 2000, completed the construction of Beidou-2 in 2012, and fully completed and put into service the Beidou-3 on July 31, 2020, marking China becoming the third country in the world to independently possess a global satellite navigation system. Next, the Beidou system will follow the basic idea of system aggregation and integration empowerment, further accelerate the integration of Beidou with emerging technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and big data, and strive to build a more universal, integrated, and intelligent national comprehensive spatiotemporal system by 2035.
