Lithium ion batteries are currently the main form of electrochemical energy storage, but there are many safety hazards. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a high safety all solid-state lithium battery system, and the core of this lies in the development of solid-state electrolytes. Professor Yao Hongbin from the University of Science and Technology of China introduced on the 11th that after more than three years of scientific research and research, his team and collaborators have designed and developed a new family of electrolytes required for all solid-state lithium batteries. It is reported that the Yao Hongbin research group and Li Zhenyu research group of the University of Science and Technology of China have collaborated with the Tao Xinyong research group of Zhejiang University of Technology to develop a new family of lanthanide based metal halide based solid electrolytes through precise material structure and interface design. The relevant research results have recently been published in the internationally authoritative academic journal Nature. It is reported that this research benefited from the low electronegativity of lanthanide metal elements, as well as the good oxidation resistance and deformability of metal chlorides, which can achieve an all solid state lithium metal battery that can operate at room temperature without any electrode modification. This new family of electrolytes also breaks through the traditional solid-state electrolyte framework design, and has excellent scalability and stability. At present, there is no mature release of all solid-state lithium metal batteries, "said Yao Hongbin. Therefore, developing a new fast ion conductor framework structure that stabilizes the lithium metal negative electrode has always been a key challenge for the development of high specific energy all solid-state lithium metal batteries. In the research, researchers found that chloride ions in the lattice of lanthanide metal halides are in a non compact packing form, with abundant one-dimensional and large-sized pores that are suitable for high-speed transmission of lithium ions and can form continuous three-dimensional conduction through lanthanide vacancies. The core of all solid-state lithium-metal batteries is solid-state electrolyte materials, and ideal solid-state electrolyte materials are precisely designed with good compatibility, stability, and other characteristics. Yao Hongbin said that in view of this, researchers have optimized and designed a new solid-state electrolyte material to achieve rapid conduction of lithium ions and stable cycling of solid-state lithium-metal batteries. Next, through artificial intelligence learning, we will further optimize better electrolyte systems and adapt them to practical batteries.
