The three main towers of Huangmaohai Sea-crossing Passage were successfully capped and are expected to be completed and open to traffic in 2024

On March 29, Guangdong Transportation Group released a news that the construction of the Huangmao Sea Cross Sea Passage Project, a key project in the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, has made breakthrough progress. The three main towers of the Huangmao Sea Bridge, the East Tower, the West Tower, and the Gaolan Port Bridge, have been successfully capped. The main tower, known as the "Little Man Waist", stands upright in the Huangmao Sea area with the momentum of "stabilizing the sea and connecting the sky", laying a solid foundation for the next project to enter the steel box girder construction facility. The main tower of the west tower of the Huangmaohai Bridge was successfully capped. The crossing section of the Huangmaohai Sea-crossing Passage Project is equipped with two main bridges, Gaolan Port Bridge and Huangmaohai Bridge, with a total of five main towers. Among them, the main span of Huangmaohai Bridge is 2 × With a total length of 2200 meters and a length of 720 meters, it is currently the world's largest three-tower highway cable-stayed bridge with the largest span. The three main towers that have been capped this time are all 254.7m high, equivalent to the height of an 85-storey building. There are four construction sections for the lower, middle, and upper tower columns and tower crowns. The main concrete body of the tower columns is constructed in 43 sections, with a maximum concrete pouring volume of 958m3 per time. The east tower of Huangmaohai Bridge and the west tower of Gaolan Port Bridge are constructed by China Railway Bridge Bureau, while the west tower of Huangmaohai Bridge is constructed by Poly Long Growth Engineering Co., Ltd. It is reported that in order to meet the structural stress and achieve aesthetic stability, the five main towers all adopt concrete spatial curved circular end single column towers, which are a "small waist" shape with simple appearance and dynamic softness. Behind the elegant shape is a unique technological blessing. The main towers of Huangmaohai Bridge and Gaolangang Bridge have complex shapes, with a gradual change from thick to thin, and then from fine to thick from the bottom to the top. The radius and center position of the cross-section arc are constantly changing, resulting in the inability of the formwork to be used in the climbing construction of the main tower. After each section of the formwork is used, it is necessary to remove it and install a new model for use, greatly increasing the process and difficulty of the climbing formwork construction of the main tower. Due to the different sizes of each cable tower template, in order to ensure the accuracy and aesthetics of the overall dimensions of the tower column, it is necessary to adopt more reasonable and advanced template forms and processing methods to "customize" the tower column. Shen Dawei, Manager of the Engineering Technology Department of Huangmaohai Sea-crossing Channel Management Center, said, "In the face of the complex structure of the special-shaped main tower, we have adopted a more adaptable multi card wooden formwork through scheme comparison and pioneered a complete set of curved single column intelligent hydraulic climbing formwork technology to accurately control the construction error of the cable tower within 5mm, maximizing the design line shape and schedule of the cable tower." It is understood that due to the complex design of the main tower, The process is complex and located in a typhoon prone area, so safety schedule management is a major challenge. The Huangmaohai Cross Sea Passage Project has completed the typhoon and flood prevention emergency mechanism through activities such as "water traffic safety collision prevention emergency drill" and "jointly building water safety management chain", successfully withstanding typhoons such as "saddle" and "Siameba", providing guarantee for creating a safe and orderly offshore construction environment. In 2022, the Huangmaohai Cross Sea Passage Project won the first place in the comprehensive quality and safety inspection of the highway under construction in Guangdong Province. At present, the construction site of the Huangmaohai Sea-crossing Passage is smooth. The five main towers of the two main bridges of the key control projects, Huangmaohai Bridge and Gaolangang Bridge, have been capped, and the last one will be capped before May. The project is expected to be completed and open to traffic in 2024. Upon completion, it will be connected to the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge
