A Large Number of Eastern Cultural Factors Found in the Tombs of the Western Zhou Dynasty from Baoji, Shaanxi Province

On the 28th, the reporter learned from the Baoji Archaeological Research Institute that archaeologists found a large number of ancient cultural relics with oriental colors, such as jade cong and bronze Xuanji ornaments, in a public cemetery during the Western Zhou Dynasty. It is inferred that these oriental cultural factors should come from the culture of the Taosi Temple. From 2018 to 2020, the Baoji Archaeological Research Institute conducted archaeological excavations at the cemetery of Dongshahe West Road. A total of 77 ancient tombs were excavated, including 45 tombs of the Western Zhou Dynasty, and 328 pieces (groups) of cultural relics with textures such as porcelain, pottery, and bronze were unearthed. Judging from the shape, style, and writing of the tomb, this is a public cemetery during the Western Zhou Dynasty. The picture shows jade cong unearthed from the cemetery on the west road of Dongshahe. The picture provided by the Baoji Archaeological Research Institute is currently widely recognized as being originated by the Zhou people in the ancient Tai land on the tributary of the Wei River, which is located in the current Wugong territory of Shaanxi. Later, they migrated to Qingyang area in Gansu Province. Due to the invasion and disturbance of Rong and Di, Gongliu moved to Gubin Prefecture during his reign, and Gongdan's father moved to Zhouyuan during his reign. According to the migration route of the Zhou people, they were supposed to have no intersection with the ancient culture located in the east, but a large number of ancient cultural relics with oriental colors were found in the cemetery of Dongshahe West Road, such as colored pottery, jade cong, and copper Xuanji ornaments unearthed in the tombs. The picture shows an unearthed bronze Xuan Ji shaped ornament. Hu Wanglin, deputy research librarian of the Baoji Archaeological Research Institute, introduced that the octagonal star pattern was found on painted pottery pots unearthed from the Zhouyuan Cemetery during the Western Zhou Dynasty. The octagonal star pattern has a very special position among various cultures and social ideologies in the East. The octagonal star pattern was found on the pottery pots and beans unearthed from the Dawenkou Cultural Site. The parallel lines and variant solar lines on the painted pots unearthed from the Dongshahe West Road Cemetery also have similarities and differences with the sun lines and parallel lines in Dawenkou Culture. Jade Cong is a typical artifact of Liangzhu culture. As Liangzhu culture expanded northward and collided with Dawenkou culture, Dawenkou culture incorporated Liangzhu cultural factors. As the Dawenkou culture advanced westward, jade cong was also found in the Shanxi Taosi culture. The jade cong unearthed from the cemetery on the west road of Dongshahe River is the result of the influence of the westward movement of Eastern culture. Xuan Ji is a jade carving instrument used by emperors to observe celestial phenomena. The bronze Xuan Ji shaped ornament unearthed in the cemetery on the West Road of Dongshahe River is similar in shape to the jade Xuan Ji of Dawenkou culture. It was not unearthed in the coffin of the tomb, but was unearthed on the second floor like copper ritual vessels, indicating that it is as important as ritual vessels. The picture shows unearthed pottery. The picture provided by Baoji Archaeological Research Institute "We believe that Taosi culture is actually a medium of communication between Dawenkou culture and Zhou culture in the east, and many oriental cultural factors in the cemetery of Dongshahe West Road should come from Taosi culture." Hu Wanglin said that Taosi is located in Linfen Basin, Shanxi Province, and Liangzhu culture, located in the the Taihu Lake Lake basin in the early days of Longshan, began to conquer north, The survival space of the Dawenkou culture originally belonging to the Shandong region has been squeezed, and the consequent westward migration of Dawenkou culture has been followed. The westward migration of Dawenkou culture in the Linfen Basin combined with the ancient culture originally located here to create the Taosi culture, which is why there are a large number of oriental cultural factors in the Taosi culture. Hu Wanglin said that the emergence of a large number of oriental cultural factors in the Dongshahe West Road cemetery has a great relationship with the culture of the Taosi Temple, which may be related to the early Zhou Dynasty
