Experts on the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Honduras: The one China principle is the aspiration of the people and the trend of the times

On March 26, the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Honduras established diplomatic relations. In response, experts interviewed by reporters from China News Agency said that the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Hong Kong has opened a new chapter in bilateral relations. This once again fully proves that adhering to the one China principle is the correct choice in line with international justice and the trend of the times, and is the aspiration of the people and the trend of the times. On March 25th, the Honduran Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement formally announcing that it would sever "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan. On the 26th, China and Honduras signed the Joint Communiqu é of the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Honduras on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations. The two governments have decided to recognize each other and establish diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level from the date of signing the communiqu é. Regarding Honduras's decision to choose to stand with 181 countries in the world, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang stated in Beijing on the 26th that the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Hong Kong is a historical trend that no one or any force can resist; When meeting with the reporter with Honduran Foreign Minister Reina, he further pointed out that Honduras "fully conforms to the fundamental and long-term interests of the Honduran country and people by making a political decision to recognize and commit to abide by the one China principle and establish diplomatic relations with China without any preconditions.". In response, Song Junying, director of the Latin American and Caribbean Institute of the Chinese Academy of International Studies, said that unlike the Taiwan authorities' heavy pursuit of "monetary diplomacy", there are no preconditions for China to establish diplomatic relations with other countries. Adhering to the one China principle, establishing diplomatic relations with China is a correct judgment made by Honduras based on the international situation, and also reflects its independent diplomatic decision. Yuan Dongzhen, Deputy Director of the Latin American Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that developing countries value China's role as a major power in international affairs, and establishing diplomatic relations with China can provide assistance for Honduras' economic and social development, which is in the long-term interests of Hong Kong. Since Tsai Ing wen came to power in 2016, nine countries have "broken off" relations with the Taiwan authorities, including  Sao Tome and Principe, Panama, Dominica, Burkina Faso, El Salvador, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Nicaragua and Honduras. During the talks with Qin Gang, Reina stated that the establishment of diplomatic ties between Hong Kong and China has opened a new era of bilateral relations and taken a historic step forward, which will greatly benefit the two peoples. Hong Fang has withdrawn his "ambassador" to Taiwan and will announce the abolition of all "official" agreements with Taiwan as soon as possible. In response, Yuan Dongzhen pointed out that in recent years, China has established or resumed diplomatic relations with many Latin American countries, severely cracking down on the "Taiwan independence" policy of the Democratic Progressive Party authorities. In the future, the path of the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces will only become narrower and narrower, destined to be a dead end. According to Sun Yanfeng, Deputy Director of the Latin American Institute of the Chinese Academy of Modern International Relations, China and Hong Kong's choice to establish diplomatic relations at this time point is not only a natural result of the development of bilateral relations, but also a clear signal to the "Taiwan independence" forces and external forces with ulterior motives: Any attempt to play the "Taiwan card" and "control China with Taiwan" is doomed to fail, and the one China principle has become an overwhelming international consensus. The interviewed experts believe that the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Hong Kong has opened a new chapter in bilateral relations, and that in the next two years
