The exhibition of archaeological relics of the Bronze Age in the Central Plains and Jiangnan was opened at Wuxi Museum in Jiangsu Province on March 5. The sword of Wu Wangliao, unearthed in Jiangnan during the Spring and Autumn Period, and the tripod of Prince Wu, unearthed in the Central Plains, were displayed at the same time. With the theme of "Splendor of the River", the exhibition is divided into three units: "Ritual setting the Central Plains", "Peace on the chariot", and "Jade decoration and pottery drinking". A total of 110 sets of important cultural relics unearthed in the south of the Yangtze River and the Central Plains, such as tripods, chimes and bronze swords, are displayed. The picture shows the sword of Wu Wangliao. (Courtesy of Wuxi Museum) Wang Liao Jian of Wu in the Spring and Autumn Period is one of the highlights of this exhibition. This sword has an inscription of 12 characters. It is the only sword that has been found since Wang Liao's accession to the throne. It is of great significance to the study of the bronzes of Wu and the history of Wu and Yue. The picture shows Prince Wu Ding. (Courtesy of Henan Museum) Prince Wu Ding is another highlight of the exhibition. This tripod was cast by the wax loss method. There are more than 80 words of bird and insect seal inscriptions in the tripod, which is an ancient art script. The picture shows Jade Flying Phoenix. (Courtesy of Wuxi Hongshan Relics Museum) Another important object in this exhibition is the jade flying phoenix unearthed in the tomb of the Yue aristocrat at Qiu Chengdun, Hongshan, Wuxi. Its subject matter and shape are affected by the etiquette system of the Central Plains, while the craft shows the style of Yue jade. The feather pattern is too fine to distinguish with the naked eye. Liu Baoshan, director of the Wuxi Institute of Cultural Heritage Protection and Archaeology, said that in this exhibition, the Yangtze River and the Yellow River civilizations co-exist in one room, reflecting a magnificent picture of the Chinese civilization, which is brilliant and diverse, but also integrated and symbiotic.
