According to Zhang Yuanming, the leader of the leading unit of the scientific research and the director of the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in 2022, the important achievements of the participating units of the third comprehensive scientific research in Xinjiang include: the discovery of a new species of endemic hookshrimp in the Erkis River basin, which proves that Mount Tomorrow and its surrounding areas are the origin of cold-water organisms in the world; Two new species of mosses and 39 new records of parasitic natural enemy insects were found in the wild fruit forest area of Tianshan Mountain; New discoveries have been made in the study of the formation and evolution of the Taklimakan Desert, and a new understanding that the Taklimakan Desert may have been formed 300000 years ago has been put forward.
