To regard art as learning and art as life

2023-02-07

He is Chang Siye in the drama "Teahouse", Zhou Puyuan in "Thunderstorm", and Kong Rong in the TV series "Journey to the West", "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms"... "The attitude of taking art as learning has run through his life", "He regards the drama career as life", "He is the model of a scholar actor"... At the memorial meeting held by Beijing People's Art Theatre on February 6, many colleagues and friends recalled his never-ending life. He was Zheng Rong, a famous performing artist and consultant to the Beijing People's Art Committee. He died in Beijing on December 24, 2022 at the age of 98. In more than 70 years of stage career, Zheng Rong has created many characters with distinctive characters and different styles, among which the most familiar are Zhou Puyuan in Thunderstorm and Chang Siye in Teahouse. With the change of the times and the growth of age, Zheng Rong has constantly had new understanding and creation to improve his character. Feng Yuanzheng, president of the Beijing People's Art Theatre, introduced that during the process of playing Zhou Puyuan from 1953 to 1998, Zheng Rong changed from class analysis to human nature, and finally handed Cao Yu the "unfinished answer" with a complete ideological thread; From 1958 to 1992, Zheng Rong kept studying and revising the role of Chang Siye, and changed from simple to tough to find the feeling of life. As the founder of the Beijing People's Art Academy, Zheng Rong is also the first actor of these two characters. The pearl and jade are in front, which makes the latecomers stand still. "Teacher Zheng Rong's fourth master Chang is the driving force for me to play the fourth master Chang, and the image seed in my heart is him." Pu Cunxin, the former vice president of the Beijing People's Art Theatre, said that how to treat Zheng Rong's performance is an unavoidable topic for his later performance in Tea House. Gu Wei, the second-generation actor of Zhou Puyuan, has similar feelings. "In my heart, Zhou Puyuan is Zheng Rong. I didn't dare to take this play at first, because I couldn't play 'flower'." He said that Zheng Rong himself and the aura that gave Zhou Puyuan the character "no anger and self-respect" deeply affected him. In the autumn of 2013, Beijing People's Art Theatre rehearsed and performed "Xiaojing Hutong". Zheng Rong wrote a letter to the director Yang Lixin after reading it, emphasizing the shaping of people. "He has always been a staunch defender of the theatre style, calling for the creation of real people on the stage," Yang Lixin said. Based on a solid life, in 2005, in order to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War, the Beijing People's Art Theatre re-ranked the play "The Butcher", and launched the 1982 premiere version of Zhu Xu, Zheng Rong and other old actors. Ma Xin, then the party secretary of the theater, recalled that Zheng Rong carefully took out a treasure: a martyr's diary at the construction group meeting. Just after the liberation of Chongqing at the end of 1949, Zheng Rong, who was engaged in progressive drama, entered the dregs cave alone and was deeply touched by the scene of the tragedy. This martyr's diary was brought back from the scene. "In order to let young actors feel the atmosphere of the war era as soon as possible, Mr. Zheng Rong brought this relic of a martyr, which has been treasured for 56 years, and many comrades were shocked." Ma Xin said, "He always insisted that artistic creation must be based on a solid life, and only the artistic image originating from and rooted in life can have a long-term penetration
