As an important strategic deployment for the implementation of the National Development Plan Outline of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, the Great Bay University officially started its preparation in 2020, with Professor Tian Gang, the former vice president of Peking University and an academician of the CAS Member, as the head of the preparation, taking the lead in promoting the preparation. The school is located in Dongguan, an important node city in the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, with a total area of 2356 mu, a total building area of about 1 million square meters, and an estimated total investment of 10 billion yuan. The school will be completed in 2030, with an estimated 10000 students, including 3000 doctoral students, 2000 master's students and 5000 undergraduate students. It is reported that the teaching and living quarters of Dawan District University Songshan Lake Campus will be delivered in June this year, which can meet the initial use needs of the school. Since 2021, the university has established a teaching team, which has initially formed a high-level teaching team covering material science, computer, mathematics, physics, chemistry, industrial engineering, etc. All teachers have formal teaching and research or post doctoral work experience in well-known universities and research institutes at home and abroad.
