The Gulf of Aden witnesses China's commitment

2023-01-05

"A group of escort formations, a merchant ship, two meetings..." On the 14th anniversary of the escort, in the vast Gulf of Aden, the 42nd group of naval escort formations, the Huainan Ship, was chopping the waves and escorting the merchant ship "Friends of Hailan" of Nanjing Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd. to successfully pass through high-risk waters. This was the second meeting between the Huainan warship and the "Friends of Hailan". In the first ten days of November 2022, the merchant ship temporarily submitted an application to the formation, and the formation command post assigned the Huainan ship to carry out escort in a "one-to-one" manner. When the voyage was divided, the crew spontaneously hung the banner of "Thank the Chinese Navy for escorting", ran up to the deck, excitedly spread the five-star red flag, waved to the Huainan Ship, and then sent a letter of thanks to express their gratitude. During this split, the merchant ship "Friends of Hailan" once again hung a banner on which seven bright red characters were written, "The People's Navy is for the People". They also expressed their thanks to the formation officers and soldiers through VHF radio and sending thank-you letters. "Reunion with the Huainan Ship of the Navy on the vast sea is like meeting a long lost family member. From the bottom of my heart, I am grateful to the People's Navy for setting up a sky for us in the Gulf of Aden, which makes us feel proud of overseas travelers, and also deeply feel the strength of the People's Navy!" Hearing the excited words of the protected ship crew on VHF radio, the pride of the formation officers and soldiers came into being. "As far as the national interests are concerned, the ship's route must be reached." The leaders of the formation said that the party and the state have entrusted the formation with the sacred responsibility of performing escort missions in the Gulf of Aden waters, and it is incumbent on the formation officers and soldiers to protect the motherland's commercial ships to pass through high-risk waters safely. Being in a strange sea area in a foreign country, watching the compatriots on the merchant ship of the motherland excitedly express their thanks in various ways, the officers and soldiers of the escort formation understood the responsibilities and missions of soldiers, and also had a deeper understanding of the important statements emphasized in the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, such as "enhancing the ability to safeguard national security" and "safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens and legal persons overseas". Safeguarding the safety of the strategic maritime passage is not only related to China's economic development, but also to the stability of the world economic order. The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) pointed out that "promoting world peace and development and building a community with a shared future for mankind". The escort action of the Chinese navy in the Gulf of Aden strongly shows that the Chinese army has always been a firm force in safeguarding world peace and stability. The wind is high and the waves are strong in the Gulf of Aden, but the Chinese navy has never been absent. Since the start of the escort operation on December 26, 2008, the Chinese navy has sent 42 convoys to the Gulf of Aden and Somali waters to carry out escort missions. Through the South China Sea, through the Strait of Malacca, across the Indian Ocean, to the Gulf of Aden and the waters of Somalia, the total length is more than 4400 nautical miles. On this striving route, groups of naval convoys have continued to work hard, and have marched forward for 14 years. Each wave flower here has witnessed the pride and glory of the people's navy escort officers and soldiers. Now, the escort in the Gulf of Aden has become a major military practice since the founding of the People's Navy, which has maintained the national strategic interests overseas, fulfilled the responsibilities and obligations of a major country, deployed the longest, deployed the most troops and carried out the widest range of activities. If we say, 2009
