In addition to the 1968 Tokyo Olympic Games, the hosting of these two major international events accelerated the infrastructure construction in Tokyo and Osaka. Shinkansen and expressways were built in the 1960s. During the 10 years from 1961 to 1970, Japan's economy grew by 11.6% annually. The economy of the whole Kansai region has been boosted.
