"We have just completed the declaration for the identification of the national silkworm genetic resource gene bank." Dai Fangyin said that after the release of the silkworm super pan gene map, they had become more urgent in their research work. The team accelerated the systematic excavation and related expansion research of the silkworm pan genome, and started the new era innovation project of "transforming the silkworm and making multiple use of it". If the traditional "Silk Road" is mainly an industry based on silk products trade, the "New Silk Road" in the 21st century will focus on modern science and technology such as genome research, improve the scientific and technological content of sericulture silk and its derivatives development, and find and build a breakthrough road of modern sericulture industry. The recently released "Silkworm Super Pan Genome Map" was completed by the Dai Fang Yintuan team over four years. They have conducted in-depth sequencing of 1078 silkworm germplasm resources, including the most comprehensive genome information of silkworm and wild mulberry silkworm, which is the largest long reading and long pan genome in the world's animals and plants, and also the highest quality silkworm genome map. "The completion of silkworm super pan genome will break through its breeding bottleneck and open a new era of molecular breeding." Xiang Zhonghuai, an academician of the CAE Member, said that previously identifying genes for specific traits or their causal variations was like "looking for a needle in a haystack", but now it can be called "catching a turtle in a jar", because the completion of pan genome can greatly improve the efficiency of mining excellent breeding genes.
