Report: China ranks second in the world in the number of patent applications for satellite applications

2022-11-10

On September 9, the World Internet Development Report 2022 (hereinafter referred to as the "Report") compiled by China Academy of Cyberspace Research was released at the 2022 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit. The Report shows that in recent years, the global satellite Internet technology innovation is active, and the number of patent applications continues to increase. Among them, China's patent applications for satellite applications account for 27.05% of the total applications for satellite applications in the world, ranking second in the world. In 2021, China's patent applications for satellite applications will reach 9546. The United States ranked first, and Japan ranked third. (The Blue Books of World Internet Development Report 2022 and China Internet Development Report 2022 were released.) The Report also shows that the global satellite Internet industry has accelerated its development and has broad prospects. Nearly 3 billion people in the world have not yet been connected to the Internet. The joint networking of satellite and terrestrial cellular networks is expected to achieve wide coverage at a lower cost, and the network speed is fair. According to the data released by the Internet speed testing agency Ookla, the satellite Internet service of a company has just completed testing, and the average download speed in 15 countries has exceeded 100 Mb/s. In addition, the global satellite navigation market is also very broad. According to the market report issued by the European Union Space Program Agency (EUSPA), the market size of global satellite navigation systems in 2021 will be 198.9 billion euros, an increase of 31.98% over 2019. Among them, service revenue was 150.5 billion euros, accounting for more than 75%, and equipment revenue was 48.4 billion euros. The Report pointed out that, at present, satellite ubiquitous coverage and ground base station hot spot coverage have the characteristics of natural integration and complementary advantages, and standard compatibility has become the main direction of satellite communication. At present, with major international alliances as the main body, the research and formulation of satellite Internet related technical standards are being actively carried out around the world. For example, the Third Generation Partnership Program (3GPP) standards organization has listed satellite access technology as one of the 5G multiple access technologies (NTN), and launched the feasibility study of NTN technology standards for R16 version; Start the development of NTN technical specifications for R17. According to the Report, commercial satellites account for nearly 70% from the distribution of satellite users. The continuous improvement of satellite commercialization will promote the breakthrough of market scale and increase the income of related industries year by year. At present, the revenue of the ground equipment manufacturing industry accounts for 50%, and together with the satellite service industry, it promotes the development of the satellite Internet industry. In addition, with the continuous innovation of emerging technologies, the satellite launch cost will continue to decrease, promoting the rapid development of the satellite Internet industry. Advanced manufacturing technologies such as 3D printing and flexible manufacturing have reduced the cost of satellite R&D and production, while technologies such as one arrow with multiple satellites and rocket recycling have greatly reduced the cost of satellite launch.
