The Archaeological Research Institute of Shanxi Province released a new discovery on August 8. Archaeologists found the ruins of Miaodigou Phase II, Longshan Ten Period and Shang and Zhou Dynasties more than 5000 years ago in Jiangxian County, Shanxi Province, providing important data for the study of the western boundary of the late Shang Dynasty and the state's social morphology. The site of Qiaoyezhai is located around Qiaoyezhai Village, Gujiang Town, Jiangxian County, Shanxi Province. The site is located at the throat of Yuguanxing. The Qiaoyezhai site has rich cultural connotations, including the remains of Miaodigou Phase II, Longshan, Shang and Zhou Dynasties. In July 2020, local archaeologists found late Shang pottery at Qiaoyezhai site, and preliminarily judged it to be the corresponding site of the nearby Soochow Late Shang Cemetery. Through two field archaeological investigations, archaeologists found archaeological cultural relics of many periods in Qiaoyezhai site, including ash pits, pottery kilns, tombs and other relics, and collected a relatively rich collection of pottery, stones, bone artifacts, etc. Among them, Miaodigou Phase II Culture is the most abundant. According to Tian Wei, an archaeologist who participated in the archaeological excavation, the cultural features of the remains of Miaodigou Phase II of the Qiaoyezhai site are similar to those of Dongguan, Taosi and other sites in the Yuanqu ancient city. The discovery of ash pits and pottery kilns in Qiaoyezhai indicates that the site was a settlement site in the second phase of Miaodigou, and has a pottery handicraft industry, indicating that the site has a high standard and may be a central settlement site. Tian Wei said that the site of Miaodigou Phase II settlement is of high grade, which is rare in southern Shanxi and provides important data for the study of Miaodigou Phase II settlement morphology. The discovery of the remains of the late Shang Dynasty enriched the material materials of the late Shang culture in southern Shanxi, and provided important materials for the study of the western boundary of the late Shang Dynasty and the national social form.
