Return to life and let the traditional skills really "revive"

Recently, Zeng Jianjun, the chairman of Dulong Handicraft Association in Gongshan County, Yunnan Province, who is engaged in employment services for intangible cultural heritage, became a "celebrity" because of various multimedia reports and retransmission of his deeds of restoring the traditional plant dyeing and weaving skills of Dulong. With the support of the local ethnic, religious, cultural and tourism management departments, Zeng Jianjun, together with more than 20 Dulong people, successfully restored the pure natural dyeing methods of six colors, including red, yellow and green, using natural plants as dyes. The "Dulong traditional nettle dyeing and weaving technology protection project" has made progress. This means that the traditional plant dyeing and weaving skills of the Dulong nationality, which have been lost for more than 70 years, have initially "revived". Zeng Jianjun, who has both green and traditional beauty, lived in Dulongjiang Township, Gongshan Mountain, Yunnan Province. Before the founding of the People's Republic of China, mountains and rivers were blocked here, and mountains were closed by heavy snow in winter and spring, almost isolated from the world. In the long-term production and life, the ancestors of the Dulong nationality used natural plant fiber materials such as nettle, ramie, and hemp to weave and dye clothes and Dulong blankets. "The older generation of Dulong people can't live without the Dulong blanket. They work in the daytime and put it on their bodies to protect them from the wind and rain, and sleep at night to protect them from the cold." Zeng Jianjun told the Science and Technology Daily that the ancestors of Dulong, who loved beauty, used various natural plant materials to dye the hemp thread into red, black, green and other colors, and then alternately woven it with the white hemp fiber, as if "the rainbow is draped on the body". After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Yunnan opened a post road for people and horses. People carried horses on their backs, and a variety of colorful cloth, cotton and linen thread entered the mountain villages. "The ready-made materials are cheap and convenient, and the coloring is more reliable. Few people try to dye and weave fabrics by themselves, so the traditional skills are on the verge of being lost." Zeng Jianjun believed that, in the modern dye industry market, synthetic dyes were widely used because of their bright color, excellent color fastness and high production efficiency. However, with the increasingly prominent environmental problems, people began to re-examine them. Natural dyes come from a wide range of sources, including plants, animals, minerals and microorganisms. Among them, plant dyes have many advantages, such as a wide range of types, convenient access to raw materials, etc. In the process of poverty alleviation and rural revitalization vigorously promoted in recent years, Zeng Jianjun was sent to Dali and other places to learn the experience of intangible cultural heritage inheritance and cultural tourism integration. Inspired by indigo tie dyeing in Zhoucheng, Dali, Yunnan, he wanted to try to recover the Dulong plant dyeing that the old generation said. Zeng Jianjun visited eight or nine old people in six administrative villages of the township, and learned from them that the colored thread of the traditional Dulong blanket was dyed with wax gourd skin, walnut skin, etc. He applied to the county for financial support for intangible cultural heritage, cooked and dried the materials, and repeatedly tested them. He successfully found the dyes for dyeing red, black, blue, green, yellow and brown fabrics. Nowadays, these plant dyes can not only make traditional Dulong blanket, but also dye clothes, handkerchiefs, scarves, etc. "The restoration of traditional skills has revived the beauty of green, and further enhanced the cultural confidence of the Dulong people. In the future, we should continue to innovate, pass it on, and carry forward the excellent national culture." The director of Gongshan County Ethnic and Religious Affairs Bureau and Li Yun said. Science and technology help to dye plants further. Natural indigo is one of the oldest dyes in the world. It contains indole acid from polygonum, isatis indigotica, indigotica indigotica, kale, etc
