Tencent Maps stopped the PC service and focused more on the mobile end. On October 12, according to the tip of Tencent Maps on the webpage, the PC end (PC end) of Tencent Maps will stop service on November 11, and mobile users can download Tencent Maps App (application) for use. Tencent Maps was renamed from Tencent's SOSO Maps in September 2013. Since then, Tencent Maps has entered the Internet map industry "Three Kingdoms Killing". The other two main competitors are Baidu Maps and Gaode Maps (under Alibaba). According to the official website of Tencent Maps, at present, Tencent has 110 billion daily location service requests, 200 million POI data coverage, and 1 billion users. According to the public information, Tencent has invested a lot in developing its map business: in 2014, Tencent Maps successively became a shareholder of professional teams in the field of mapping, such as Kering Hangrui and Siwei Tuxin, in order to obtain the underlying data more quickly. On October 15, 2021, Sogou officially announced the merger with Tencent, becoming an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Tencent Holdings. On May 15 this year, Sogou Maps announced that it was offline, closed all related services, and suggested that users download Tencent Maps. Since then, Tencent Maps has gradually developed and covered nearly 400 cities nationwide. However, Tencent entered the map business late. Before 2014, the Internet map market was firmly controlled by Alibaba and Baidu, which may affect the subsequent development of Tencent Maps. On October 13, according to the download amount data of App Bao, Gaode Maps and Baidu Maps ranked second with 2.7 billion and 2 billion times respectively, while Tencent Maps downloaded 200 million times, less than the first two. In the ranking list of free navigation apps in the iOS App Store, Tencent Maps also lags behind Gaode and Baidu. Some insiders analyzed with surging journalists that the reason why Internet giants attach great importance to map business is that maps play a very important role as an entrance. Data shows that more than 60% of life service applications of mobile Internet are related to navigation maps. More and more consumers are used to using mobile phone maps to confirm the geographical location, and then to search the surrounding life services. For the reason why Tencent Maps stopped its PC operation this time, people close to Tencent told reporters that it was more out of the consideration of focusing on mobile terminals. However, some analysts also interpreted it as a part of Tencent's non core business contraction. Previously, Tencent's "cost reduction and efficiency enhancement" initiative had attracted wide attention. Ma Huateng, CEO of Tencent, and Liu Chiping, President of Tencent, have publicly stated for many times that Tencent has implemented cost control measures and adjusted some non core businesses, which will help to achieve a more optimized cost structure in the future. In the latest financial report for the second quarter, Tencent said that in the second quarter of this year, it took the initiative to withdraw from non core businesses, tighten marketing expenses, and cut operating expenses. In the future, it will focus on improving business efficiency and adding new sources of revenue. It is worth noting that surging journalists have learned that Tencent has successively launched more than 10 products this year, including the once popular QQ Hall, Penguin E-sports, Spotlight Express, and Handheld W
