Promote medical innovation and guard the bright future of patients (the striver is young)

"It's so convenient to take a picture to know if there is cataract!" On August 22, at the Baiyun Street Community Health Service Center in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, 67 year old Lu Bo sat in front of the "Ai ophthalmologist", leaned his chin forward and looked straight in front of him. He started the artificial intelligence robot consultation. A few minutes later, a diagnosis report was printed out, and the information of cataract, macular disease, high myopia and other eye diseases was clear at a glance. "Ai ophthalmologists" who push high-quality medical resources to the grass-roots level are one of the scientific research and innovation achievements of Lin Haotian, deputy director of Zhongshan eye center of Sun Yat sen University. Over the past 10 years, this post-80s ophthalmologist has devoted all his youth to the cause of guarding the light for patients. He has not only made breakthrough progress in the treatment of congenital cataract, but also took the lead in exploring artificial intelligence to enable eye diagnosis and treatment, achieved a number of innovative breakthroughs "from 0 to 1", and won the "Chinese Youth May 4th Medal" and other honors. In 2004, Lin Haotian graduated from Sun Yat sen University with a bachelor's degree in clinical medicine and chose to go to Sun Yat Sen Eye Center for postgraduate study. He made up his mind to focus on ophthalmic research and become a "Lightbringer": "bringing light to others is a very fulfilling thing." "Go to the area with the most patients." With this idea in mind, Lin Haotian took cataract prevention and treatment as his main clinical work and research direction, and launched an attack on cataract, which is a common blind eye disease. Lin Haotian introduced that cataract surgery for the elderly has long been relatively mature, but the treatment of congenital cataract has always been a world-class problem. "The development of children's eyes has not yet been completed, and their anatomical structure and characteristics are quite different from those of adults. It is difficult and risky to operate, and there are many complications." Lin Haotian said that in China, the prevalence of congenital cataract is about 5 / 10000, of which the blindness rate is 12% - 30%. Once sick, it will have a great impact on the child's life and family. Since 2010, Lin Haotian has joined the team of his mentor Liu Yizhi to develop minimally invasive and ultra minimally invasive cataract technologies. In addition to his clinical work, he has become a "cold stool" for scientific research. After years of efforts, his team realized functional lens regeneration by activating the damage repair function of endogenous stem cells in original tissues, and designed ultra minimally invasive surgery technology for children with congenital cataract, bringing hope to countless families of children. In his many years of clinical work, Lin Haotian has more and more deeply realized the pain point of ophthalmic medicine - most primary medical institutions do not have professional ophthalmic diagnosis and treatment strength, while the ophthalmology department of grade III A hospitals is crowded with patients. Lin Haotian has to see 50 to 60 patients in a row at his cataract clinic every week. He often doesn't even care to drink water. "Scientific research must face the most urgent needs of patients." Lin Haotian said that after accumulating a large amount of clinical data, he began to think about how to make use of the data saved as archives for clinical diagnosis. Since 2013, he has focused his research on the field of medical big data and artificial intelligence, striving to find a more effective way to prevent and treat blindness and empower primary medical institutions. From collecting data manually, to establishing and continuously improving model algorithms, to gradually realizing automatic diagnosis and prediction of diseases; Extending the diagnosis of cataract to cornucopia
