"Made in China" EMUs have entered Egypt for the first time

2022-07-05

The reporter learned from CRRC on the 4th that on the morning of July 3 local time in Egypt, the EMU developed by CRRC Sifang Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as CRRC Sifang) drove passengers out of the Adeli Mansour station in Cairo, marking the opening and trial operation of the light rail in Egypt on the 10th day of Ramadan, which was constructed by Chinese enterprises. This is the first time that "made in China" EMUs have entered Egypt. Ramadan 10th City railway is the first electrified railway in Egypt, with a total length of about 70 kilometers. It is located in the east of Cairo, the capital of Egypt. It is an important link between Cairo and the new administrative capital, Ramadan 10th city and satellite cities along the eastern route. It is also one of the flagship projects of China Egypt "the Belt and Road" cooperation. "The EMUs manufactured by CRRC Sifang for the Ramadan 10th City railway are the first municipal EMUs in Egypt." Han Zhengchao, the chief designer of CRRC Sifang, said that the EMU used for the Ramadan 10th City railway is designed to have a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour. Each train is 6-car marshalling and can carry up to 2222 passengers. It is a modern electric bus with advanced technology, strong environmental adaptability and humanized design. "On the 10th day of Ramadan, the city railway runs through tropical desert areas. When designing EMUs, we 'customized' them for Egypt according to the local operating environment." Han Zhengchao said that the design takes full account of the local environment and can adapt to the harsh desert operating environment, such as local dust, high temperature, strong light and so on. According to Han Zhengchao, the EMU adopts a special wind and sand resistant design, improves the sealing level of vehicle equipment, and develops an active sand removal device to prevent the invasion of sand and dust, so that the train can operate safely and reliably in a strong sand and dust environment, keep the air inside the car clean, and ensure the riding comfort of passengers. "In order to adapt to the local high-temperature climate, a high-power air conditioner with stronger refrigeration capacity is adopted, and the temperature of the passenger compartment can be reduced to below 26.5 ℃ when the external temperature is as high as 45 ℃; the window glass adopts the structure of double-layer hollow argon filling and adding low-E coating, reducing the intensity of light and ultraviolet light, and installing sunshades, so that passengers can also have a comfortable riding environment under extreme high temperature and strong ultraviolet conditions." Han Zhengchao said. In addition to its strong ability to adapt to the environment, CRRC Sifang also adopted a number of advanced international standards when designing this EMU. "The strength of the car body is designed in accordance with standards higher than the requirements of the contract; the crashworthiness of the vehicle meets the requirements of the harsh European en15227 crash standard; the fire protection of the train complies with advanced standards such as din5510, bs6835 and NFPA." Han Zhengchao said that the interior facilities of the carriage are also very complete, equipped with radio, LCD passenger information display, multimedia broadcast, disabled seat area and other functional systems to provide passengers with humanized services. According to reports, the Ramadan 10th City railway project was contracted by China Railway - AVIC international consortium, and CRRC Sifang provided all EMUs for the project. The vehicle supply contract was signed in 2018; In 2021, the first train will be offline and delivered in batches. Before the trial operation, the vehicle carried out on-site routine test and type test in Egypt for half a year to ensure the safety and reliability of the train. Local government departments said that after these "made in China" trains are put into service, they will effectively alleviate the traffic pressure in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, significantly improve the transportation capacity between Cairo and key new cities, provide a new way of transportation to and from Cairo, Ramadan 10th city and the new administrative capital, and facilitate the daily travel of nearly 5million local residents in more than 10 satellite cities along the line.
