Over the years, Long March rockets have launched satellites for Hong Kong

2022-07-01

On the occasion of the 101st birthday of the Communist Party of China and the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, the reporter of science and technology daily learned from the first Academy of China Aerospace Science and technology group that over the years, the academy has contributed to the sustained prosperity and development of Hong Kong's science and technology and economy by providing commercial launch services for Hong Kong enterprises. Since 1997, the first academy has successfully launched six communication satellites for Hong Kong enterprises. On October 17, 1997, the long march 3B carrier rocket (hereinafter referred to as the long march 3B rocket) took off from Xichang Satellite Launch Center and put the Asia Pacific 2R communication satellite into the predetermined orbit. The launch is the first time that the long march series of carrier rockets have provided satellite launch services to companies in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region since Hong Kong's return to the motherland. The Asia Pacific 2R communication satellite weighs 3743 kg, and 28 C-band channels cover all Asia, part of Europe (Eastern Europe), most of Africa (including South Africa), Australia and other one-third of the world, providing fixed satellite communication services for more than two-thirds of the world's population. On April 12, 2005, the Chang San Yi rocket successfully launched the Asia Pacific 6 communication satellite. The satellite takes over from Asia Pacific 1a and becomes an important satellite communication and broadcasting platform in China, Southeast Asia, Australia, Hawaii and other countries and regions. On March 31, 2012, the Chang San Yi rocket successfully put the Asia Pacific 7 communication satellite into the scheduled orbit. The satellite takes over from the Asia Pacific 2R satellite and provides television transmission and satellite communication services for many countries and regions in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Oceania, as well as live television and transcontinental communication broadcasting services for China, the Middle East, Central Asia, Africa and other countries and regions. On October 17, 2015, the Chang San Yi rocket successfully launched the Asia Pacific 9 communication satellite. Together with other satellites operated in orbit by Hong Kong Asia Pacific Communications Satellite Co., Ltd., the satellite provides high-quality one-stop satellite transponder services, broadcasting, satellite communications, telecom ports and data center services for Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia and other regions with about 75% of the world's population. On May 4, 2018, the Chang San Yi rocket successfully launched the Asia Pacific 6C commercial communication satellite into the scheduled orbit. The satellite provides customers in the Asia Pacific region with high-quality services, including video broadcasting, live TV to the home, and mobile network base station transmission. On July 9, 2020, the Chang San Yi rocket successfully launched the Asia Pacific 6D high-throughput communication satellite into the scheduled orbit. This is the first star of Ku band "high-throughput broadband satellite communication system" in China. It mainly provides users in the Asia Pacific region with high-quality, efficient and economical all-weather satellite broadband communication services to meet the needs of maritime communications, airborne communications, land vehicle communications, fixed satellite broadband Internet access and other applications. In fact, before Hong Kong's return to the motherland in 1997, the first Academy of Sciences had provided many launch services for Hong Kong enterprises. In the future, the first Academy said it would continue to provide high-quality launch services for Hong Kong enterprises and promote commercial cooperation to more fields. (Xinhua News Agency)
