Recently, Fujian courts have concentrated on public trials or sentencing of 97 defendants in 45 drug-related crimes. It is understood that from 2021 to may 2022, Fujian courts accepted 1410 drug-related criminal cases in the first instance and concluded 1209 cases. In 2021, the number of new drug-related criminal cases in the first instance of courts across the province decreased by 28.36% year-on-year, and 50.85% year-on-year from January to may 2022. The effectiveness of combating drug-related crimes has been evident. In recent years, Fujian courts have always maintained a high pressure on drug-related crimes at the source, such as manufacturing and processing drugs and providing drug-making raw materials. Since last year, 554 drug criminals have been sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of more than five years, life imprisonment or even death. In order to improve the trial mechanism, the Fujian Higher People's court has established a collegial panel for drug-related crime cases, which is specially responsible for drug-related crime investigation and trial guidance. It insists on summarizing and analyzing the drug-related cases returned for retrial, revision and defects in the previous year at the beginning of each year, and unifying the thinking of adjudication. The Fujian Higher People's court also organized competent forces to carry out investigation and demonstration, and formulated and issued the guiding opinions on drug quantity control and penalty application in major drug-related crimes, which achieved good social response.
