Recently, construction workers are erecting wheat straw squares on the cliff top of Mogao Grottoes to reduce the impact of sand storms on cultural relics. It is expected that by the middle of June, 40000 square meters of grass squares will be completed. The project is funded by the Hong Kong Friends of Dunhuang foundation, and the China Dunhuang Grottoes protection and research foundation supports the Dunhuang Research Institute with 400000 yuan. Out of love for the world cultural heritage Mogao Grottoes, Hong Kong, which is far away, has forged a deep friendship with Dunhuang. Guoqinglin, vice president of Dunhuang Research Institute, said that over the years, the Hong Kong Friends of Dunhuang foundation has continued to pay attention to the protection and inheritance of Dunhuang culture, especially in the digitization of cultural relics. Li Meixian, vice chairman of the Hong Kong Dunhuang friends foundation, introduced that the foundation was established in 2010 and is a non-profit organization recognized by the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Over the past ten years, the foundation has donated 25million yuan to the protection of Dunhuang Cultural Relics, involving the protection and maintenance of caves, the digital collection of cave information, the support of Dunhuang Research Institute personnel to visit abroad, and the support of young Hong Kong students to visit Dunhuang. The Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, which were built in 366 ad, are an "Encyclopedia" that faithfully records ancient society. Li Meixian said, "Dunhuang has moved us, not only because of its history and art, but also because of the Mogao Grottoes who stick to the protection of cultural relics in the desert. The more we know about Dunhuang, the more we have feelings for Dunhuang." In the 1980s, Run Run Shaw donated 10million Hong Kong dollars to the Dunhuang Research Institute to install cave doors and glass screens for the caves to slow down the impact of sandstorms on cultural relics; Raozongyi's "raozongyi building" with a donation of HK $6.02 million was completed in Dunhuang Research Institute in 2016 to carry out cultural relics digital scientific research; Fanjinshi, honorary president of the Dunhuang Research Institute, known as the "daughter of Dunhuang", has also won many awards set up by people in Hong Kong Dunhuang art exhibitions have appeared in Hong Kong for many times. In 2014, the largest Dunhuang Cultural Relics Exhibition in Hong Kong history, "Dunhuang - endless stories" was held. Organized by the leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Dunhuang Research Institute, the exhibition displays nearly 120 exhibits such as cultural relics and painted sculptures. In the three replica caves of the Mogao Grottoes, visitors can experience the artistic charm of Dunhuang. In August this year, Hong Kong will also hold a Dunhuang art exhibition. Li Meixian said, "culture is the root of a nation. Culture is rooted in the heart, making people more patriotic and proud of the Chinese people." Today, the Dunhuang friends of Hong Kong Foundation has about 170 donors and about 30 volunteers. Some came to Dunhuang to learn about the history of the Millennium grottoes, while others served as voluntary interpreters of Dunhuang culture in Hong Kong. "We hope that more young people can understand Dunhuang culture from different perspectives, treat culture with a broader mind, and enhance their self-confidence and pride in Chinese culture."
