Recently, Huzhou public security organ and ecological environment department jointly investigated and dealt with an illegal case of using "chemical oxygen demand (COD) remover" to interfere with online monitoring data. China's Ministry of ecology and environment informed the media of the case on August 8, requiring local ecological and environmental departments to make good use of modern technologies such as big data and UAV remote sensing, and severely crack down on prominent illegal acts such as tampering and forgery of monitoring data according to law. It is reported that Huzhou Public Security Bureau (Environmental Investigation Detachment) and the municipal ecological environment department strengthened coordination and linkage. Through the analysis of big data such as online sales and transportation, it was found that relevant enterprises in the jurisdiction were suspected of using "cod remover" to interfere with online monitoring. After verification and elimination, the new Changxin Tiandi Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. is suspected to be a major offense. The on-site inspection found that the company added the "cod remover" to the sampling port of the on-line monitoring facility through a white plastic pipe. The video of the company's wastewater discharge outlet shows that the company has repeatedly added "cod remover", which is suspected of interfering with the online monitoring data. After investigation, in order to reduce the COD on-line monitoring value, the company has injected "cod remover" into the front section of the sampling port of the on-line monitoring facility for many times for a long time, so as to interfere with the on-line monitoring value. At present, Changxin Xintiandi Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. has been identified as illegally evading the illegal emission of pollutants by means of tampering and forgery of monitoring data because of the illegal addition of "COD remover". The ecological environment department of Huzhou City ordered the illegal enterprises to stop their illegal activities and transferred the case to the public security organ for investigation and punishment according to law. The public security organ has taken criminal coercive measures against four suspects. In January 2021, the Ministry of ecology and environment publicly reported the illegal case of using "cod remover" to interfere with online monitoring data in Shenmu sewage treatment plant, Shaanxi Province. Over the past year, local ecological and environmental departments have continuously strengthened law enforcement and inspection in the sewage treatment industry, and a number of environmental violations have been seriously investigated and dealt with in Beijing, Zhejiang and other places. Cao Liping, director of the ecological environment law enforcement bureau of the Ministry of ecological environment, previously said that in recent years, in the daily supervision and law enforcement, all localities have investigated and dealt with a number of monitoring data fraud cases according to law, requiring all localities to strengthen the investigation and handling of similar cases and seriously crack down on data fraud.
