Chinese ambassador to Italy: democracy is an important concept unswervingly adhered to by the Communist Party of China and the Chinese people

On June 6, Li Junhua, Chinese ambassador to Italy, published a signed article "democracy is the common value of all mankind" by the Aden Cronos news agency. The full text is as follows: For some time, some people have deliberately labeled China as "non democratic", which is not only a misunderstanding of the concept of democracy, but also a misinterpretation of China's democracy. Democracy is the common value of all mankind and an important concept unswervingly adhered to by the Communist Party of China and the Chinese people. Last month, the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China issued a communique emphasizing that China actively develops people's democracy in the whole process and comprehensively promotes the institutionalization, standardization and procedure of socialist democratic politics. We advocate: Democracy is not an ornament, but a guarantee that the people are the masters of the country. The original mission of the Communist Party of China has always been to seek happiness for the people and rejuvenation for the nation. Through the system of people's congresses, the system of multi-party cooperation and political consultation led by the Communist Party of China, the system of regional national autonomy and the system of grass-roots mass autonomy, the interests of the Chinese people have been systematically guaranteed to ensure that the Chinese people fully participate in national governance. For example, China has five levels of people's congresses, and all deputies are elected directly and indirectly in accordance with the election law. For another example, in the process of formulating the national development plan for the 14th five year plan, the central government solicited opinions from the whole society through the Internet, and finally absorbed and adopted more than 1000 important suggestions from a large number of feedback from the people. Democracy is not a standard product on the assembly line, but a beneficial exploration in line with national conditions. What kind of political system, development path and democracy a country chooses are determined by its history, culture, social nature and economic development level. Therefore, there should be many ways to achieve democracy, and it is impossible to be the same. A country's democracy is not democratic, it is the people of this country that judge, but not the minority has the final say. In May this year, a Washington Post poll showed that Chinese citizens' satisfaction with their own government was as high as 98%. This also reflects from one side that the Chinese people highly affirm the enjoyment of democratic rights. Facts have proved that China's people's democracy throughout the process has ensured that the state concentrates its efforts on major events, promoted the continuous improvement of the people's quality of life, and effectively safeguarded the country's sovereignty, security and development interests. Democracy should be reflected not only in domestic politics, but also in international relations. The United Nations is composed of more than 190 sovereign states. A country's affairs are decided by its own people, and international affairs are handled by countries through consultation. This is the due meaning of democracy. The national conditions of different countries are different, but the people of all countries pursue the common values of peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy and freedom. No country is a natural Democratic leader, and no model is destined to be superior. It is completely contrary to the concept of democracy for one or more countries to issue orders, engage in power politics and international bullying. International affairs should be governed by countries in cooperation in accordance with international norms and consensus, which is the correct paradigm of democracy. Recently, the so-called "democratic summit" held by the United States is actually drawing a line with ideology, engaging in group politics and deliberately provoking camp confrontation. This move reflects that the United States adheres to the Cold War mentality and pursues the zero sum game, which is undoubtedly questioned and criticized by many people of insight in the international community. We firmly oppose such acts of splitting the international community and attempting to engage in "democratic privatization". The United States may pay more attention to the thoughts and aspirations of its people, face up to and solve its own problems such as the democratic deficit and the human rights gap. It is an extremely undemocratic act to regard itself as a "democratic ally", pursue "double standards", and even turn the issue of democracy into a tool to suppress and contain other countries. China adheres to being a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development and a defender of the international order. China will continue to develop and improve people's democracy throughout the process and contribute Chinese wisdom to the progress of human political civilization. China is also willing to continue to work with other countries and peoples to carry forward the common values of all mankind, promote the democratization of international relations and play a constructive role in promoting global peace and prosperity.
