Make sex education a compulsory course for every child

2021-11-17

Recently, the Ministry of Education issued the guide to teaching materials for the introduction of life safety and health education into primary and secondary schools (hereinafter referred to as the guide), which requires the prevention of sexual abuse into primary and secondary school teaching materials, which has aroused the attention of public opinion. With the development of society and the progress of ideas, the importance of sex education is gradually understood by the public. In 2011, the outline of China's children's development (2011-2020) issued by the State Council clearly proposed to "bring sexual and reproductive health education into the compulsory education curriculum system", so that children can understand that "the place covered by underwear is inviolable". According to the report on the statistics of cases of sexual assault on children by "girl protection" in 2020 and the investigation report on children's anti sexual assault Education: in the cases of sexual assault on children exposed in 2020, more than 70% of the acquaintances committed crimes, and the exposure of sexual assault cases by family members increased significantly; Nearly 60% of sexual offenders commit crimes many times. Without the prevention of external forces, the perpetrators of sexual assault often commit crimes many times and will not automatically terminate. The continuous crime often lasts for 2 to 3 years. Among the cases exposed in 2019, the longest time is 22 years. Other data show that 61.48% of teenagers have had "adolescent confusion", but as high as 78.24% of teenagers lack adolescent sexual health education, and most teenagers rely on "self-study" for their sexual health knowledge. In this context, the introduction of the guide is at the right time. Only by fully integrating life safety and health education into primary and secondary school curriculum teaching materials, can life safety and health education be serialized, normalized and long-term. Specifically, life safety and health education is carried out in three stages: primary school, junior middle school and senior high school: primary school initially studies adolescent development; Learning the basic knowledge and skills of adolescent health care in junior middle school to improve the ability to prevent sexual harassment and sexual abuse; In senior high school, we should have an in-depth understanding of marriage and childbirth related knowledge, laws and regulations, and be able to effectively prevent and respond to sexual harassment and abuse. Sex education has become a compulsory course for every child. After systematically understanding relevant knowledge and mastering relevant skills, I believe children can better protect themselves from sexual assault and indecency. It is gratifying that sexual abuse prevention has been introduced into primary and secondary school textbooks, but how to carry out sex education will still face many difficulties. Among them, the concept problem is undoubtedly the biggest "stumbling block". Some experts say frankly that the key to sex education is still in the family. In the face of sex education, parents often have thousands of knots. On the one hand, sexual assault and other incidents on campus occur frequently, so it is urgent to popularize adolescent sex education. On the other hand, influenced by traditional ideas, many parents always feel that involving "sex" is sensitive, or that it is nothing more than "that thing" between men and women. Such differences have led to disputes over the "scale" of sex teaching materials. Some parents hope that the scale of sex education can be appropriately larger and let their children understand some, but many parents still think that they can't be too "straightforward" and should be as obscure as possible. It's difficult for everyone to adjust, which gives sex education a difficult problem. In fact, sexual health education has a wide connotation, including not only physiological and reproductive anatomy knowledge, but also sexual psychological development, sexual ethics and morality, sexual legal knowledge, STD prevention and control knowledge, etc. what sex education should do is not only to impart simple knowledge, but to strengthen the guidance of values and morality. Sex education is not terrible. What's terrible is how to educate. For parents, the first thing to do is to "desensitize" themselves and don't feel ashamed of sex, so as to face their children's problems calmly. Of course, when promoting this education, education departments and schools also need to fully consider the complexity of this problem, make sufficient demonstration and preparation, and give corresponding educational guidance to parents.
