Wang Yi meets with US Secretary of state Abraham Lincoln

2021-11-01

On October 31 local time, State Councilor and foreign minister Wang Yi met with US Secretary of state Abraham Lincoln in Rome. Wang Yi said that in recent years, the US side has pursued a wrong policy towards China, resulting in a comprehensive impact on China US relations. The US side wantonly interferes in China's internal affairs, and this Congress has issued more than 300 Anti China bills. The United States has included more than 900 Chinese entities and individuals in various unilateral sanctions lists, seriously undermining the normal exchanges between China and the United States. The United States has also pieced together various small circles to suppress China around the world, and even put pressure on many small and medium-sized countries. These practices are not in line with the interests of the two peoples, the expectations of the international community and the development trend of the times. China clearly opposes them. Wang Yi said that the important experience accumulated over the past 40 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries is that "cooperation benefits both sides, and fighting hurts both". The truth of the repeated contacts between the two sides in Anchorage, Tianjin and Zurich is that the two countries must respect each other and treat each other as equals. The Secretary General of the United Nations has repeatedly called on the world to prevent division and the emergence of a new cold war. The important consensus reached by the heads of state of China and the United States in the two calls is that the two sides should restart dialogue and avoid confrontation. The top priority is that the two sides should earnestly implement the consensus of the two heads of state, and make political preparations and provide necessary conditions for exchanges in the next stage. Wang Yi said that I would like to establish regular contact with you and exchange views in a timely and candid manner on how to control the differences between the two sides and properly solve the problems, so as to enhance understanding, eliminate doubts, avoid misjudgment and explore cooperation. Wang Yi pointed out that the Taiwan issue is the most sensitive issue between China and the United States. Once handled incorrectly, it will cause subversive and overall damage to China US relations. Recently, the situation in the Taiwan Strait has become tense again. The United States has repeatedly said that this is caused by China's change of the status quo. This is not a fact at all, but a serious misleading to the international community. Wang Yi stressed that the real status quo of the Taiwan issue is that there is only one China, Taiwan is a part of China, and the mainland and Taiwan belong to the same country. Historical experience has repeatedly proved that any change to this status quo will seriously damage the stability of the Taiwan Strait and even create a crisis in the Taiwan Strait. The crux of the current situation in the Taiwan Strait is that the Taiwan authorities have repeatedly tried to break through the one China framework, and the United States is also to blame for its connivance and support for "Taiwan independence" forces. To stop the development of "Taiwan independence" tendency is to maintain peace in the Taiwan Strait. We advise the US side to realize the serious harm of "Taiwan independence". We demand that the United States pursue a real one China policy, not a fake one China policy; Demand that the US side fulfill its commitments to the Chinese side rather than betray its faith; The United States is required to truly implement the one China policy into action, rather than saying one thing and doing another. Brinklein reiterated that the United States will continue to adhere to the one China policy. Brinklein said that the United States agrees that the United States and China should develop bilateral relations in the spirit of mutual respect and is willing to maintain communication with China, manage differences responsibly and avoid confrontation or even crisis. Wang Yi also expressed China's solemn concern over various issues that the US side has damaged China's legitimate rights and interests, and asked the US side to change its course and promote China US relations back to the track of healthy development. The two sides also exchanged views on important issues such as climate change, energy supply, the Iranian nuclear issue, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, Myanmar and Afghanistan, and expressed their willingness to maintain dialogue on addressing various global challenges.
